Rocky Mountain High Gathering Sept. 15,16,17 in Poncha Springs area
Alright folks it appears to be choosen by the people. Two more things before we get this dialed up totally.
1st: Campgrounds...does anyone know of good ones in the area? Preferably national forest ones....We need to get reservations ASAP.
2nd ride suggestions anyone? Monarch Crest will be one (unless someone can come up with a reason it shouldn't be). Maybe something on the rainbow trail coming out of Salida? I'm thinking in the 20 mile range...
anything else you want to discuss?
generally what I'm thinking is 3 days, 3 rides. drink beer by the "fire" each night. Camp thur/fri/sat nights, come home Sunday after Sunday's ride.
I've wanted to explore the Colorado trail north of Poncha Pass - towards BV. I've also wanted to do the Alpine Tunnel ride near St. Elmo. But I've ridden none of that. I have ridden some of the Rainbow from just downstream of Salida back to Methodist Mountain and it was pretty nice, but a fair amount of highway and gravel roads.
Sounds like a blast, would love to checkout the riding in the area, only done the crest there. Of course, Hartman rocks in Gunnison or CB is close enough for ride variations too I guess.

How many people do you guess we will have? I could call Absolute Bikes and tell them what is up and they could probably point us in the right direction for camping.

Not a clue...somewhere between 5 and 50 is my rough guess. I was sorta hoping people would chime in that they'd be going, but my guess is most people won't commit for sure until a week or so before. We should get two campsites to share among the committed (usually will hold 16 total), and the non-committed can fend for themselves. We'll tell them where we are at, but they have to figure the rest out....

I am committed or is it committing , for the party, er gathering. I am with debaser, gotta watch the total intake...
I can bring any necessities so let me know what is needed (including astove and the like); I would say beer but that seems to be well covered.
I will be driving, but I can only haul 1 other, due to limited space on top of the car (only have 2 trays total), if you got a spare tray, then I can haul 2, you see how it works. I should be able to haul up others $hit aswell, depending on how loaded the trunk gets.
Unless you're bringing your wife along I doupt anyone is actually going to discourage you from drinking to excess. Afterall someone has to jump a fire pit this time around.....might as well be you.
Jeezus, you're not one of those scared to get dirty folks are you? :nono:
Come on TVC, time to roll around in the slop with the rest of the pigs. After the first day, everyone will smell like old sweatsocks, stale beer, and woodsmoke if for no other reason than to keep Godzilla and ibmkid from hitting on them. That's living, baby! Besides, if you stay at the Inn, you'll probably miss seeing Dave jump the fire or Brian demonstrating the three point walking method while trying to find his tent.
Seriously, the Anvil compound has plenty of extra tents and camp gear if you need to borrow something.

Junior & I will be there at a minimum. I'll do like last year and bring the enclosure, the tools, the repair stands, and basic parts/tubes to support the group as needed and of course, bottled beer for us snobs who don't like drinking out of a can.
You gotta 50 gallon solar shower and a portable generator with a 110v outlet in that compound of yours?

C.J. had 110v and a hot shower (powered by propane) last year....I made use of it.
So what...hanging out with a bunch of dirty boys (and maybe a couple dirty girls if us dirty boys are nice) doesn't appeal? FWIW, I'd guess half the folks that attended last year had alternate lodging or did it as day trips. I dig the aspect of actually getting to know all the mtbr folks better and that's what campfire drinking is for.....
At the compound, we have all the amenities of home, since it is our home. Solar shower for camping, check. Can't help with the 110 outlet...whaddya need that for?
Seriously, you really can't enjoy the vibe (well, I can't) if you gotta' drive back into speed trap Salida. Besides, AJ, ex-rock & roll star that he is, strikes me as a drinker! I'm looking forward to prying some groupie stories out of him!

Well, what good's a shower if a girl can't dry her hair afterwards?

And thanks for the offer on camping gear! Very nice of you! But believe it or not, we're actually quite set on supplies. The truth is, I've got about 10,000,000,000 Holiday Inn points to get rid of, and the allure of post ride showers and fluffy pillows can be hard to ignore. But you're right, staying at the campsite would be much, much more fun.

Just let me know who I need to talk to...if I show up with Shaine we can be very convincing....
