I've been wanting to do this race since it's inception, but events have conspired against me. Managed to make it this year. Having done very little biking recently, but a lot of running/hiking, I wondered how it would go.
Well, it was d@mn hard. Massive amounts of hike-a-bike, relentless sun, and a seemingly endless descent. Also, the Pikes Peak area has some serious beauty and isolation.
We met some great folks out on the trails. Special shout out to the Colorado Springs Mountain Bike Club for the great aid stations.
Here are some pics...
Amazing scenery along Gold Camp Rd
The elevation profile
Resupply near the Pikes Peak Toll Rd. We got a late start, this was probably closed for most people
Near Horsethief Park
Also near Horsethief Park
Finally getting some fun downhill after the massive ride up 376 and the heinous hike-a-bike
Is this descent ever going to end?
My bike ready to roll. I like to get as much weight off my back and on the bike
