    Remember Thelonious Monk?

Better, ever heard of Thelonious Monk? A true genius at the piano. I don't know how this will go over here but I listen to this all the time. You need the time to have it play in the background as you are sitting quietly, no distractions. Every time I play this I think I should link those who would be interested here to it. So here goes:

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/INlPqwl473I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
So it seems to me to be, this thing that I think I see.

    Re: Remember Thelonious Monk?

We used to have a cat named Thelonious. Then we got a dog and named him Monk.

The reason I posted up the link to this particular album is because, well, it's just great hearing him alone at the piano, doing the stuff only he can do, and second---it's really approachable for the non-jazz listener.

If you were to pick just one random video on Youtube to get acquainted with his work, you couldn't find a better place to start than this album. You'll notice when you hear the above album how they included maybe three versions of two different songs. He never played the same tune twice the same way.

One vid on YT is an hour of him doing this one song in the studio about 15 different ways. Which was why a lot of musicians found it hard to play with him.

edit: and besides that, if someone were to want an "introduction to jazz" this isn't what I'd play for them. This is an intro to Monk.
So it seems to me to be, this thing that I think I see.
