    Red Feather Riders

Do you ride trails around Red Feather? Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the only people riding these trails. As much as I like trails with no people, it sometimes gets a little lonely riding in the Red Feather area. Wouldn't mind hooking up with a few other riders for the occasional weekend ride in the Lady Mood, Killpecker zone, or anywhere else nearby. Drop me a pm if you're feeling the same.

I'm not familiar with the trails up there, but I'm down for exploring since its not too far from me. What kind of riding is it, mostly?

The plateau where the town of Red Feather Lakes is is rolling land that can be kind of sandy in places. All decomposed granite. Relatively flat trails starting out from the Mt. Margaret and Lady Moon trailheads are in this area. Steeper stuff exists down near the Boy Scout road. Some sections are single track, some are double track old ranch roads.

West of Red Feather the land rises up, trees change from ponderosa to lodgepole, things get rockier, but also more loamy. Killpecker, N. Lone Pine, trails, and Beaver Meadows are representative.

Things are pretty snowy and muddy right now. Things should start getting good later in the month.

My only experience riding up there is a Killpecker / North Lone Pine loop several years ago. I found the loop pretty rough and parts of it had been torn up by motos. I need to get back up there and explore some more.

Its all pretty much the same. You wouldn't be out of place to shuttle Killpecker with a downhill bike. But, its not too bad a climb with a trail bike in granny gear. N. Lone Pine is still really technical and remote.

Having seen you ride, I think you would! Ask my brother, Keith Johnson, about it. He's been up there with me in the past.
