    Racing scene for kids?

I was wondering if there was any kind of racing scene near to Boulder for kids?

My daughter, who will be 9 in a few months, loves to ride and loves to ride fast. I just got her a Specialized Hotrock 24 and I am in the process of upgrading it a bit. I'm thinking it may be good to channel her enthusiasm for speed and riding into a beginners kids race somewhere.

Is there anything like this during the course of the year? Does Valmont bike park do anything like this - I think that would be a good location.

    Anyway, ideas welcome.

That's great. I'll be sure to check out the summer camps.

If you don't mind driving a bit, the Fort Collins area has a pretty good kids cycling scene. At the New Belgium short track races in the spring and the New Belgium cross series in the fall, there is always a kids race and the kids race free. Keep an eye on Your Group Ride - Fort Collins Cycling for schedules and announcements.

There's a short track series hosted by CU in the summer at the CU resarch park - SW corner of Foothills and Arapahoe.

also check out Boulder Junior Cycling They've grown tremendously over the past couple of years although I'm only familiar with their cross participation (they have many national caliber juniors) and coaches. check out their 2011 participation How Healthy is jr CX in the US Hard to beat Anne Trombley's resume and some of the others come from strong backgrounds as well (Zach Grabowski is another of the higher ups in that org).

I've had my son in a couple of their programs and am really impressed with their professionalism and the enthusiasm the kids get from their events.

I didn't know CU still did that race series. I know the location as it is about 50ft from where I work . In fact I just stepped outside and took a photo of it. I don't see many people on it anymore now that Valmont is open.

Any idea where CU posts information on the short track races?

    CU Cycling Short Track Series

Great series and they do a good job at changing the course around each week to keep some variety and challenge.

I agree about Valmont - that would be an ideal kids race spot. Wonder how hard it would be to make that happen.

yep the CU series is still going strong. We donate a bike to the winner of the kids series each year, along with a lot of the other prizes. They have a good time. Should start up in May-ish
