    The Pint to Pint

Hey guys, I put together a map for our little ride. There could be some optional climbing added over GM instead of around, a lap or two on Enchanted Forest at Apex, and I believe there is a higher loop in Red Rocks (I haven't rode it but I remember it as an option).

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2363730 There is an option to show the elevation change too!

    So, who's in?

I suppose I should post that too huh

Meet at 1130am at the Ironworks brewery off Alemeda. Start at noon and finish at Golden City brewery. My wife has volunteered to take some pictures and provide a pit stop at the Matthew Winters parking lot. The pit stop can be a water refill and/or another pint

    Official Info Enclosed!

The Inaugural Pint to Pint Ride!

Alright, we're having a nice little "competitive group ride" the day after Halloween... here's the full info on the Pint to Pint so everyone knows what's up! Thanks to my friend Matt for the mapping of the route, And to SolVista guy Andy for the original idea for the ride. The plan is to rock this ride the first Saturday of November on an annual basis, so mark your calendars accordingly, it's going DOWN!

    What:
    The Pint-to-Pint Ride

    When:
    Saturday, Nov 1, 2008
HIGH NOON start time, meet at the start pub at 11:00 a.m.

    Why:
    Beers. Bikes. Bragging rights.

    Start:
    Ironworks Brewpub
    12354 W Alameda Pkwy
    Lakewood, CO 80228
Meet up at 11:00 - 11:30 a.m., racing starts at HIGH NOON!
    Click for Google Map

    Finish:
    Golden City Brewery
    920 12th St.
    Golden, CO‎
    Click for Google Map

First off, this IS a "race" - but the only prizes are bragging rights. That's okay, the only entry fee is your pints at each end!

The "race" starts at Ironworks Brewpub with a pint of beer (I would prefer this to be "promoter's" choice i.e. Andy and I will probably pick the double garglebaster or something), then proceed up the sidewalk to the main GM trailhead (Florida?), around the lower traverse of GM and across the footbridge, up Zorro, south on Dakota up and over the hogback, climb through RR and M/W, hop out on the road down to Apex, up Apex and proceed to the top of Chimney Gulch, descend down to Golden City Brewery where each participant quaffs back another pint! First person to set an empty glass on the bar at GCB gets the bragging rights and whatever else they can swindle their friends into giving them.

There won't be any course marshals (Unless I can get my boy Marshal from Green Mountain Sports to show up) so it's all on the Honor System. If you cut the route, be man (or woman) enough to let people know. One last thing: since this is a "friendly yet competitive" group ride (i.e. "race"), there are categories! Two of 'em, to be exact: Men 21+ and Women 21+. Those are the only distinctions, however: anyone holding a Pro/SemiPro NORBA card (in any discipline) or a Cat 1/2 card on road is handicapped one additional pint at each end. Except for Coop, we're holding him to 3 extras fore and aft.

    Speaking of the route...

Click the image for more Pint-to-Pint route maps!

Here's a link to the Google Pedometer map of the route:
    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2363730

Or check out the same route map on MapMyRide:

If you don't want to participate in the Pint to Pint, show up and ride anyways. I'd prefer everyone that shows up actually does the true "Pint to Pint" but hey it's a free country and ain't nobody makin' a dime offa this (except Ironworks and GCB) so do what ya gotta do. It's all about fun, bragging rights, the general support of Awesomeology, etc. yeah look it up, it's like Scientology, but Awesome!

As posted, the Pint-to-Pint officially kicks it off at HIGH NOON on Saturday, so show up at least 15-30 minutes early so we can get a head count and order the correct number of pints. Start is LeMans style: bikes will be outside, pints will be quaffed inside. Run to your bike and GO. Ironworks opens at 11:00 a.m. and I am not responsible for (nor would I EVER encourage! ) any ADDITIONAL pints that anyone decides to drink prior to the start of the Pint-to-Pint!

    See ya'll there!

Thinking I had a little to do with the name so I shall be there. Being new to the area and all though could you post up some directions on the route. Trails I ain't really worried about. I know them...its more the directions to the pubs...

    Ironwood from Union?

Matthews to the bottom of Apex?

Apex to the Top of Chimney Gulch?

    Chimney Gulch to GCB?

Thanks and can't wait. May have to ease my Thursday night ride down a bit so I can have fresh legs.

    • Ironworks is west of Union on the south side of Alameda, in a strip mall behind the McDonald's
    • From M/W parking lot hop on Morrison Road and follow under I-70 and down to the Heritage Square parking lot and the Apex TH
    • At the top of the gut of Apex before you turn left into Enchanted Forest look for a trail heading up and to the right. This takes you up to a neighborhood street with a dirt bike path following one of the roads up to the top of Chimney Gulch
    • I'm pretty sure you can follow bike path from the bottom of Chimney Gulch to GCB, but I've never been there so hopefully a Golden local can help out! Otherwise, I think Ithnu mapped it pretty well...

Hope that helps! The entire route is on the map Ithnu routed that I linked to in my post above, as well as Google map links for each brewpub at the beginning and end as well!

Seriously though, I would suggest a carpool with a buddy or two... leave a vehicular unit at GCB to get you back to Ironworks. Or be a man and RIDE back!

(I will be "shuttling" this point-to-point Pint-to-Pint extravaganza, BTW)

I rode for the first time in almost a month today to pick up my kid from preschool...

There's no f***ing way I'll survive a ride back to Ironworks.

We'll have my truck at GCB. It can carry 5 people and bikes. We'll do a few rounds if we have to. Suddenly have a DH'er who knows how to shuttle is beneficial

There used to be an easy way to do it involving a tunnel under 6th and with a little bit of bonus singletrack even. However, with the construction they were doing on the Mines playing fields this summer, it was closed off. Don't know what it's currently like.

My rides always go off without a hitch.

Of course there are only about 3 a year and I'm usually the only one on 'em.

Won't a Camelbak full of Titan be a tad uncomfortable on your drive from Ironworks to the mid-point?

All this smack-talking has me thinking though. And you people KNOW I don't like the thinking! But I *guess* I'll bring along a cooler full of ice just in case anyone wants to stow some frosty beverages to be taken to the mid-point.

Not if I fill the bladder with said beer. Takes care of a multitude of issues.

I'd personally think it ought to be that little lot at the bottom of Dakota Ridge at the RR entrance... then I could get lubed up for the climb to MW.

So is it MW, one of the Dino lots, or Apex?

    Count me in!

I enjoy a well organized clusterfawk. I live about a block from iron works and will be riding my bike back from GCB. Anyone is welcome to join me on the ride back although with a half a doz. IPA's in me i'll probably end up at that little road house bar near the rooney/colfax interchange on the way home.

I'll buy a couple at the start and at the end if someone can sport me one at the undisclosed (MW) halfway point.

I like the titan in the Camel back idea, man you would never get that smell out.

See you all saturday at 11:30 ish. I'll be on the green G.F.

    -Chuck

One last question: at the botom of Chimney is there some easy way to get on the bike path for a straight shop to GCB? I have only ever ridden from the parking lot. How does one get across the road without riding up to 19th or over to hwy 58?

Consider a Titan in the cooler with your name on it.

Snowskilz has asked me to text him when I'm almost done, he's volunteered to drink beer with me afterwards. Some one already thinks they'll be too hung over for the ride after a Halloween party

I've got a friend from who may not make it, but I'd put my money on him. And his 10 year old hardtail with a jacked up fork getting 1" travel. No joke, this guy is a climbing demon.

I'm in. I plan to arrive a-plenty hung-over from the Halloween eve, and still dressed in costume. My costume is good for at least +1 horsepower on the climb, though it looses that advantage in aerodynamic drag on the way back down.

If I were able to ride with you all, I'd challenge you as sweep on the climbs, just because I know you 'd really like someone else taking on the care position! However, I'll be with some of the Dirt Divas on a different ride -- maybe see you guys over at gcb when we're done!

C'mon Mean Gene... a shot of Hornitos?!?! What's the fun in that? I know you're not into beer per se, so the "over 40 and drinking a shot of Hornito's class" will start at 12:23 p.m. Fair enough?

Or I suppose you can just take it up with Winoradsky... this is his brainchild afterall...

I'm still unclear if Sh!tles is ridin, if so save me a brew..

On another note. The MW parking lot will be full of families and there will be TONS of hikers on that section. Apex lot may be a better place to kick back a mid-ride pint, or shot, or puff...

    has anyone alerted the breweries?

is it cheating to park a vehicle at MW filled w/ snacks?

Don't even worry about it... just take the right hander heading up on Apex right before you get to Enchanted Forest, when you emerge into the neighborhood right across the intersection you pop out at is a dirt singletrackish path that follows the road up to the top of Chimney Gulch!

That is exactly right... it IS their business. In fact, I think the entire Ironworks business plan is summed up as such:

    Step 1.) Brew beer.
Step 2.) Sell the beer to as many people that show up.
The older I get, the faster I was.
