Is Picture Rock good to go?

Thinking ahead a bit here. I want to get up there Thursday/Friday. I want to know if there are any snow patches left.

No snow for a week or so. We rode last Sunday and there were a few wet spots. I rode it today and no mud.

I'm reaching here, but given the history of the weather, it's got to be too dry.

I think you need to ride it and post how dry it is.

We've had very little precip here over the last 10 days, and what has fallen has been eaten up by the sun. Temperatures tomorrow will push the mid to upper 60's. Should be a fabulous day for a ride. I am putting together my Sunday forecast right now (should be online in the next few hours), and I see a great day for outdoor activities. You can check out the only customized forecast for Lyons at: http://www.lyonsrecorder.com/weather.html .

Have a great ride on Sunday!

    Peace!
    Greg

I think I'm going to ride this today. First time for me... Can someone recommend the prefferred route? It sounds like Heil has a loose rock climb that detracts from the fun...making a Hall starting point the choice. Opinions? Thnx.

the heil climb isn't bad. there's a distinct line that isn't really that loose....and the descent on the way back is one of the highlights. if you park at heil, ride up the first climb, right at the first intersection all the way done to the bench/overlook, then hang a right and head down wild turkey to pictured rockes. Wild turkey seems to flow alot better in that direction. you can then do pictured rocks out and back....or all the way to lyons and do a loop at hall.

Dry as Sahara desert yesterday. That's route i did yesterday and was great. Lot's of traffic down Picture Rock in the afternoon so the desent is not as fast as it could be but who can complain w/ the the mid 60's tempature?

I was out there yesterday, basically by myself. The entire ride was only 1:15 minutes because it was so quite. I climbed up PR turned around and went down. Just absolutley beautiful. I'm so used to so many people on that trail and having to stop and wait. I only passed 2 bikers and a handful of teenage trail runners.

Where was everybody? 2 cars in the parking lot including mine. Priceless

Yeah, todays PR ride went pretty good. It looks like most people are parking in the PR parking lot nowadays since I suppose the PR protesters have chilled out. I still parked in the town and had a crappy windy ride to get to the trail. It was really windy at the start of the trail but once you started riding up it wasn't so bad.By the time I road turkey trail loop back to PR the wind had suddenly stopped and it was an excellent 5 mile decent. I forgot how much that ride can work me when I take the Turkey loop. I saw a few riders but never messed up my flow. I had a great ride and was glad to make it out. I think I'll ride again tomorrow but I can't stand the wind and they are saying it's supposed to be really windy tomorrow. Guess, I'll wait and see. I wouldn't mind hitting Walker or WR.

Outside of the wind, it shouldn't be too bad today ... Friday will be cooler with highs not getting out of the low 60's but still not too bad for hitting the trails. Saturday and Sunday will definitely be cooler, and I am considering upping my snow chances on Saturday. I'm not terribly sold on the weekend system just yet, but right now it looks like today and Friday would will be better than Saturday and Sunday. I'm still tinkering with the weekend forecast. You can get my Lyons forecast at: http;//www.lyonsrecorder.com/weather.html . Right now on that forecast I have a 20% chance of snow on Saturday, but I'll probably change that after I look at the late morning and mid afternoon computer model runs. I'm also considering lowering the high temperature another 5 to 10 degrees on Saturday and a few degrees on Sunday so be sure and check out the Lyons forecast if you plan on heading out to the Hall or Heil Trails during the weekend.

    Happy Trails!
    Take care,
    Greg

^^ Yeah, so far it's started off really mellow today. I'm haven't noticed any wind but they said it's supposed to be extremely windy this afternoon. Guess I'll wait and see what it's like when I get off at 2. I was checking out your website/webcam yesterday before I went to PR. Man, that's a nice webcam! Great view.
