    OT: Tile/bathroom work
Anyone recommend an affordable tile/bathroom person in Lakewood/Golden? Either that or a good arsonist. :madman:

    Whats cheap?

I start at 8k for a standard bathroom remodel. Average is around 13k.

Average bathroom remodel is $13k? "Average" is very misleading then, obviously jacked up by all the millionaires wasting money on re-doing something that doesn't need to be fixed and spending $20k in the process.

You can very easily remodel a bathroom for WAY less than $8k.

seems like he is interested in tiling rather than whole bathroom remodel. sure you can remodel for less than $8k, in fact you can easily fit under $1k if you use frp and fixtures from home depot. question is, do you want to do that? "millionaires" bathroom remodels cost tenths of thousands because every single fixture itself could cost couple thousand. but i certainly agree that average remodel is very vague term and so is affordable. I personally think tiling is pretty tough, if you want to do it right and so that the final product looks good. i have built my house and pretty much did everything involved in family home construction, i tiled our two bathrooms and if i was going to build another house tiling would be one of the things i would rather not do myself again.

I agree with doing it yourself, but only if you have another bathroom.

I did my downstairs bathroom a couple years ago. I had never done tile, it took awhile, but there are enough resources on the internet to make it relatively easy. I think I did my shower for around $300 and the floor for another $100. Honestly, I am a bit of a perfectionist, but it turned out very nice and compared to many bathrooms I see, its high quality workmanship.

I was told the shower would have cost around $2500 if I would have paid someone.. but I never got any bids myself..

I painted too, but didn't have to replace fixtures, they were fine..

^^^ Same here - did it years ago in Arvada.
The worst part is cutting the tiles if you don't have your own equip.

yeah cutting is the worst. i was tiling while it was snowing outside, no heat in house yet, using wet saw outside as only water available was from hose from next door house. and i had plumber scheduled to install fixtures next day so i had to be quick. no fun.

Need to replace a shower, not an entire remodel.

Andy, DIY from me would mean burning the house down. Already sooo tempted.

Ripper would probably do it for a mere $7,999.99 in that case.

And now that you have documented the whole arson thing, better opt for a different route.

Eff the DIY. Spend that time riding. Life's too short to waste fun time replacing showers.

Other option is GIANTKiller buys the house. I like this option.

you gotta rent a wet saw if you don't know someone you can borrow it from... going to home depot for cuts is just not efficient..

    you guys are funny

I tiled the back of my van and put a disco ball in chicks dig it

seriously though, go buy one of those cheep little tile saws for 30 or so bucks (maybe more) they work good enough to do some basic tile cutting, you should expect to pay at least $10 sq ft plus backer plus extras for quality work

*Sigh* Kind of sucks when a joke goes sailing over someone's head with no comprehension.

    Tenths of thousands would be hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars. 1000 * .1 = 100 or 10,000 * .1 = 1,000. Either way, a bargain!

TENS of thousands would be 10,000... 20,000... 30,000 etc

And you made me do math in public to add insult to injury!

To get this on topic, how many average bikes does it take to tile an average bathroom?
