    OT: Stereo repair in Denver?

I have a circa 1988 NAD 705 stereo receiver that doesn't work. Despite its age, I consider it to be in really good condition - never abused or misused. The LCDs that illuminate the display are burned out, a known problem with NAD products of this era. I suspect other issues as I can't coax any sound out of it.

I called Listen Up in Denver, since they're an NAD dealer. They didn't seem optimistic that it could be repaired, or even very interested in having a look. Plus, there's a non-refundable $75 deposit just to take a look. Basically, I got the expected "you're better off replacing it" line.

Not interested in replacing it without at least TRYING to fix it. Can anyone recommend someone local that fixes old stereos? Doesn't have to be a professional per se, just someone with experience that likes to fix electronics. My hunch is it's an easy fix, but I don't even own a soldering iron, let alone have a clue how to troubleshoot electronics.

I keep hoping my old stereo will $hit the bed so I *CAN* replace it.

I know that's of no help to you...

I can't vouch for this guy, but I see his ad on craigslist occasionally.

The correct number of bikes one should own is N+1, where N is the number of bikes currently owned.

Thanks. I looked briefly on CL this morning, thinking that might be a good place to find the kind of person I'm looking for. I'll keep him in mind.

This one bought the farm several years ago and I replaced it with a NAD C 720BEE for the living room. Hoping to revive this one for use in my workshop where I'm not as concerned about exposure to temperature extremes, dust, etc.

Guitar Center recommended these guys for turntable repair, and it sounded like they work on any audio gear. Have not used them personally, yet.

These guys do a lot of work for musicians. I had two roommates who used them. They do good work and love old electronics.

just buy an older receiver from CL. Lots of good 5ch equipment goes for cheap.

I've always liked the look of NAD, but all three of my NAD components have failed on me.

Even in critical listening, you'd be hard pressed to tell much difference between amps... and I've owned (and still own) a ton of amps. Including $5K Bryston monoblocks.

The exception to this would be if you had < 4ohm speakers.
