Smile OT: Lord Stanley, here we come

OK, I love Hockey playoffs. Love 'em.
I love ridin to the bar to watch these guys smash each other. Great memories of '96 and '01.... I dont seem to remember ridin home...Anyway
The Avs got some ol' timers back (Foote, Forseberg), and Sakic is back. I even heard Roy was coming out of retirement.
I'm stoked (I dont often use that word). It always seems to be the team that catches fire at the end of the year that wins.

Could this be the (well, another) year of the Avalanche?

They're putting the band back togehter!

Unfortunately, they don't have a time machine to take the last seven years of age off Forsberg & Foote. Why not complete the deal & trade for Blake and lure #77 out of retirement?

I'm an Avs fun but I'm not optomistic about their chances. For one thing, the Avs need to step it up and figure their sh!t out or they're not making the playoffs. For another, Theodore is still the goalie and it's safe to call him inconsistent. We shall see...

You gotta understand... I still think of the Avs as the Nordiques.

And I'm from that Godforsaken state called Michigan.

    It's only natural.

Are you guys talking about the league formerly known as the NHL? I thought it died three years ago. Whenever I hear about the Bruins, I don't think of my old favorite team, I just assume people are talking about UCLA.

It would be nice if hockey mattered again.

Look, one wash up player returning to wear he spent his most productive season does not make the sport relevant again. Actually signing a contract with a tv network that people watch would help as well as eliminating all teams from warm weather climates (except the Kings and Stars) and expanding canadian teams. I don't like that the NHL doesn't matter, but it's the truth. Gary Bettman should be put in jail for what he's done to arguably the best league in sports. It's atrocious.

Hey I'm happy you local guys have a reason to cheer again. Plus with Yao going down the Nuggets may make the playoffs too (they were my pick for the 50 game winner that wouldn't make in the super talented western conference - looks like the Rockets are going to have problems now). But as someone who played hockey and wore his Bruins jersey with pride, I have zero interest in the NHL and will not be interested again until some things change.

But I wouldn't bank on too much from Forsberg. He almost didn't come back at all.

I'm thinking you're not getting the complete picture of what Footer and Peter are bringing back to this fine, fine sport.

Wow Patriot, you sure are a buzzkill. These guys can give the team a spark.
Remind me not to ride bikes with you if there is a possibilty of rain.

Its still hockey, man. The sport misses you....

Hey I'm pscyhed for the Avs. Forsberg is a low risk high reward kind of guy and bringing Foote back was a great move. I think the Av's are coming together at the right time. My issue is much more with the league as a whole and how a sport I once listed as my favorite has fallen so far. I'm hoping that David Stern realizes how good of shape the NBA is in and decides to take over the the NHL and crack some skulls! At this point it would take something drastic to bring me back full time.

On top of all that the owner of my beloved Bruins is a douche bag who won't fully commit to winning, so I have even less reason to watch.

I'll keep an eye on the playoffs, and now that I live here I'd be psyched to see the Avs do well. But I'm full on focused on the upcoming baseball season and NBA playoffs!

Sorry for being a buzzkill on this topic...I'm really an upbeat guy, especially when it comes to sports...the NHL just makes me sad.

I didn't even know there was a seniors league in the NHL. Sakic and Forsberg's AARP cards won't get them 15% extra goals.

Make way for your youngsters. Crosby, Malkin, Stall!! Go Pens!!!

Those are old photos dirtwhistles I mean Redwings. I recently remember Lidstrom getting his bell rung by Laperierre. The rivalry has returned. The Red Wings are strong this year but we just loaded up on a lot of heart and pure excitement. That can go a long ways.

This is going to be fun......

I respect the young guns but experience in 7 game series has to be earned. And by the way Ovechkin is better than all three of those guys combined. Do you a you tube search and watch this guy not only may goalies look like crappies on the ice, but ***** slap defensemen on the way in.....

Funny thing about the Red Wings is...

Their fans suck as much as they do.

And to the guy that thinks the NBA is where it's at and the NHL is atrocious. Are you out of your mind? I'm sorry that the Bruins have been stinking it up for 30 years, but the NBA is made up of the most self absorbed athletes on the planet who know nothing about teamwork....especially our local variety Nuggets. Hey Shtles,

Did you see the sad attempt by the Rocky Mountain News writer to bash the Red Wings? It was so sad that the Detroit Free Press decided to run it in pity.

There's a link in the OT: Rocky Mountain News thread.

Now Philadelphia, which had the worst record in franchise history last season and the fewest points in the NHL, will play the top-seeded Montreal Canadiens in the conference semifinals."

Theo got pulled cause he got raped at the end of the first & beginning of the second. Foppa is out with a groin injury, Wolski got injured after the red wings second goal, and Im not sure about hannan(took a shoot to the inside of his foot). On the bright side Parker should be coming back soon hopefully

Yeah I'm eating those words. Where was Forsberg when you needed him?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3377369

The NBA is setting all sorts of ratings and attendance records. The NHL is on VS. Think about that; the following sports all have either major network contracts or contracts with cable channels like TNT and ESPN: WNBA, AFL, NASCAR and MLS...professional soccer and women's basketball are both seen on the biggest sports outlet in the world, and the NHL is on...Versus. Awesome!

Look, I grew up playing hockey, used to coach it and played until a few years ago. My sport of choice between basketball and hockey is definitely hockey. But no one with a straight face or any knowledge on the current state of professional sports can say that the NHL is in a better place than the NBA. That's just ignorance. I'm sorry that the only local example is the Nuggets, because they are pretty immature and pathetic for a 50 win team, and yes the league was down for a few years after Jordan retired, but look at it now. Chris Paul, Lebron James, Deron Williams, Tim Duncan, KG...these are all super stars who are likeable. Plus they have a commissioner who knows how to run a league. And if you want to see teamwork, watch a Celtics game sometime.

I gave up on the Bruins not because I liked basketball more...it's because Jeremy Jacobs was a tightwad who had the money but refused to spend it on players that would give the team a chance to win it all. It became unbearable to watch.

To answer your question, the NHL playoffs are more fun to watch...hands down. But my original point is that the league is in a terrible place compared to the other major sports and it bums me out as a hockey fan.

Now I have to go watch the latest WNBA draft on ESPN classic!
