An odd view of Heil Ranch.

We ( me and 3 work buds) rode last night...before this freakish snow and rain drizzle...can you have snow drizzle? Well anyhow, it was dry as bone. Only the evidence of petrified prints of the people who decided the mud was acceptable were left. There seems to be four phases of conditions of the trails over the year: snow, mud, hard dirt and dust. We are in the hard dirt phase..least before the moisture today. I'm willing to bet it's good to go tomorrow, probably just got damp from todays precip.

The tracks of the mud warriors linger ahead.

One of the funky hairpins on Wild Turkey. (This lens seemed to take the curve right out using this angle.)

If you are in Boulder, drive north from town toward Lyons on 36 to the turn-ff to Left hand canyon. Drive 1/2 mile to the Heil Ranch turnoff (signed on the right) and head to the lot.

Awesome, thanks! My sister comes to town in two weeks, want to take her somewhere to ride, this seems like a great spot this time of year.

Cool shots lidarman. I hope one day I can graduate to knowing what the hell I'm doing with my camera, like the rest of you badasses!

Just be warned that Heil is rocky. Not in the technical obstacle sense, but in the rattle some teeth loose sense. It can be fun, particularly if you have a FS and/or can carry some speed. But you should at least take a look at the other Heil thread (Heil is good to go!) for a little more discussion.

Lidarman: Nice pics! Some of those motion-blur shots are particularly nice.

So anyone else report on whether this is ridable today? Was thinking about heading up there after lunch... don't wanna drive out there and find a mud pit, since I won't ride if that's the case... Appreciate any help!

Way too wet. Don't bother riding it at all. Only a couple of punks would ride it.

It was nice out there today...

FrontRanger speaks the truth. Serious freaks out there:

Only the road up was a bit muddy. The trail cleared as you climbed, and then got snowy, and then cleared... Got it?

Wildlife? They seemed pretty tame to me...

Hmmm.... I hope lidarman doesn't mind me photojacking his thread. Just wanted to share with everyone! Man, I wish my pics were half as good as his. ugh.

I have no ownership...what ever keeps the fun and beer flowing.

Thanks for joining in. The trail looks great even after the snow. Yet to see wild turkey, seems only deer are about. I guess they come along later in the summer?

Maybe they were just drunk when they were naming the trail?

Actually on the day the trail was opened, I rode it and saw three wild turkeys.

I also saw happy bunnies on my Easter ride so maybe I am on something.
