Not as Freezing Springs Night Ride 12/11/2013

Temps look to be in the thirties this coming week and we might get a little melt Tuesday, but I'd bet that we will still be riding through a fair amount of choppy snowpack. This week's location needs to be thought out carefully.

Ute Valley today was tough. With the temps there hasn't been much foot traffic to pack it down. Hardly any traction. I had to hike up most climbs. Then two fat bikers rode by hooting and hollering... I was jealous.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make the ride this week. Where do you guys wanna meet? The caretakers house?

Probably. Riding up the necessary sections of red rocks will most likely be muddy.

I haven't ridden anything on the west side, but if it's anything like Palmer Park was on Saturday I doubt we'll be seeing much dirt.

It's melting fast out there, and the temps are still pretty cool today. I think the lower stuff will be pretty melty by Wednesday, but since it's only going to top out at 30 degrees, it should be already freezing up again by the time we get to the lower parts of the trail. It will be interesting to see how much snow/ice is out there.

It would be good if I'm done by 8:15 so I can pick Jaenette up at the airport. Do you guys think we will be done by then if we start at the caretaker's house and get going pretty quickly?

I think a lot of that depends on the traction going up High Drive and Palmer. My tires are spinning a lot in this stuff. I had 17lbs in the rear today and still spunout a lot.

That is why I'm still a maybe for Wednesday. My tires no likey this snow. My neighbor just got a 650b Kona with High Roller II's. He was clearing a lot of climbs I wasn't making on the 26" Purgatory.

Looks like it's time for Brian to get a big wheel!

My thought is that High Drive and Palmer Trail will both have received a fair amount of hiker traffic by now. Palmer Trail might be a little "softer" since the traffic can disperse wider across the road, but usually Palmer Trail gets packed pretty quickly.

If Hitechredneck is in I'm definitely in. I always seem to laugh a lot more when he attends.

The grasshopper was trying to follow the Zensei (Kman) and I went over the handlebars. I sprained my left wrist and have internal bruising on my chest... but that one only hurts when I breathe.

Ouch Luis! If it makes you feel any better, I ate $hit twice (once hard) on the Edna Mae Stairs. The sore back that I had from botching the first drop with you went totally tweaked after the hard crash and I couldn't bend over for two days. That was a painful ride for both of us, even by Palmer Park standards

Kristian, no it does not make me feel any better. That made me laugh and that hurt. I was doing so good holding my breath following Arin's advice.

Just kidding, I am glad we rode and got to experience new sections of Palmer. Have fun tomorrow guys, Ithimk I am going to try a less risky ride in Monument if I get out of work early.

It is going to be 25 at 6. At least High Drive is a quick warm up. So the plan is to meet at the care taker's?
