New(ish) to the area. Could use some advice.

    Hello All,

It has been a little over a year since my wife and I moved(back for me) to Castle Rock, Colorado. I have been an avid mountain biker for twenty years at this point, so it has been nice to be back. That being said, I was hoping for some advice/suggestions on a few points:

1.) I am looking for a good/laid back group of cyclists that have an organized Saturday morning mountain bike ride - preferably in southern denver/castle rock area. Weeknight rides are also ok, but would like a solid group of people to ride with on the weekend - riding by myself is getting a little boring and I am loosing motivation.

2.) I currently only ride a steel single speed (Salsa El Mariachi), and while I love the bike, I am looking to do longer rides this upcoming season and feel that there are some front rage trails that (for me) would be more fun with gears. For those of you logging long miles, what are you using and why? I have a budget of around $3k. Any suggestions?

3.) What bike shops do you like in the area and why?

    Thanks,

    Randall

    Meetup.com

Invite people to ride with you on the local forums

Meet riders on the trail, be social, ask to hang with them, lots of SS'ers around here !

I've been to some meetup rides. The format is sort of childish and frustrating in the sense only "organizers" can post rides. That being said, lots of rides posted in the warmer months and for the most part everyone I've met have been friendly.

I thought about that, but I do really enjoy the Single Speed, and most of the trails out here are not really an issue on it. I just top out after about 3 hours and would like to not feel like death after certain rides.
