Monarch Crest -- How early is too early?

As a realatively new Coloradan (and one that has yet to ride this trail), I'd really like to ride this trail before it closes.

SO when can you ride it? When will the snow be gone?

    Before it closes?

It will likely open up fully some time in July I would guess. There's a $hitload of snow up on Monarch this year.

usually middle of june is rideable, but you'll have to walk a bunch of snow spots.

but as these guys stated, monarch got nuked this year... probably push back the date by weeks.

Here's the closest SNOTEL sensor to the Crest. Observe the departure from "average" up there:

And it was a great year for snow up there! I have never seen so much snow at Monarch.

Oh, yeah, that means the trail will likely not be dry till July.

I rode it in july three years ago, and there were still spots up there. But in the later summer, you have to watch for the lightning. I HATE lightning.

OR... in the meantime help to ensure that it doesn't close so you can continue to ride it in years to come.

There is sooooooo much snow up there that there could easily be snow in some areas all summer. That's not to say you can't ride it, you will just have to walk thru drifts. I've done this in August and have gotten stuck in a blizzard no joke. We usually ride it at least twice a summer and the past two summers have been good. I'd be hard pressed to say that it will be rideable in June. Heck, it's snowing up there now. However, it's worth the wait It's my favorite

480"+ of snow has fallen on the CDT in Chaffee/Gunnison County this winter season, starting the big dumps in December, it's still coming down up there. Monarch has average of 100" of packed Base on the ski hill.
I was walking up around 8,000' this morning looking at the bike course of the Salida 3P, this April 19th, and there was 4' baked hard drifts. The snow was deep and dense enough to hold this up

So when will the Monarch Crest section of the CDT be "ride-able"? What is your explanation of "ride-able"? Kindof like 'affordable housing'.....
