A while back, I alluded to some big plans we had in the works for trails up here in Clear Creek. Well, today we got tentative approval to go forward with some of them.
"Area 28" will be a whole new network of XC/AM and DH/FR (!) trails in the hills north of Idaho Springs.
These trails will be done right — we're going to try to use as much south-facing terrain as possible, so they'll be accessible during the winter. There will be "multi-use" trails in the system, but the big news is that (fingers crossed) we will have a nice chunk of trails that are MOUNTAIN BIKES ONLY. So that means — nice downhills, nice features, and no hikers or equestrians on certain trails. And all non-motorized.
We're going to need lots of help to get these built, and we'd like to see the bulk of the work done "by riders, for riders." So I'll be posting appeals for volunteers for trail work days sometime in the next couple months. If everything falls into place, we hope to break ground sometime before November.
But until then, to whet your appetitite, here's a look at what we could be riding within the next couple years. Bear in mind this map is tentative, but it gives you an idea of how potentially cool this could be...
