    M M A D

    Marshall Mesa After Dark (MMAD)

    When: Tuesdays, 6:00PM
    Where: Main Trailhead/Lot

I ride Marshall Mesa in the evening a couple of times a week, and I'd prefer to not do it alone 100% of the time. If you'd like to join an old (46), slow (yes, slow), guy for an hour's ride or so, show up. You'll need lights. What kind? I can't speak for anyone else, but my Amoebas (400L on the bar, 400L on the helmet) work well.

Note -- Truly horrible weather and/or sloppy trails are cause for cancellation. PM me if in doubt.

I haven't parked at that side much - you mean the trailhead across 93 from the Eldorado Canyon entrance - correct?
SE corner of 93 and 170 (Eldorado Springs Dr/Marshall Dr).
I will be in the dark blue dodge grand caravan.

I just had dinner and now I'm back here. Andychrysler, we've seen your pics from your Baltimore trip. Obviously you can handle the Inauguration pics. Just take a ton of them. If you get 5 that are worthy it's a good night of photography.

    Inaugural MMAD report

Let me preface this by saying noone is allowed to read it until one of you tells me how to imbed the text between the pix!!!!!!
I keep asking this and noone answers me. Everyone knows how to do it but me - what's the deal. Is it some kinda secret club?
OK, now that someone has probably sent me a PM or answered in this thread, read on.
milehighmark, petersbike and myself met at the MM trailhead at 6pm. Were kinda expecting at least a couple more, but nope.
Sorry for the 2 timing thing PBR_me, but Tues are better for me right now (more consistent anyway). Plus you can never have too many riding partners!
We all did an out and back on (Cowdrey Draw?), then a figure 8 kinda thingy all on the E. side of 93, and N of the plateau. MHM had to leave, and PB and I rode back up to the gate at 93, and split up there. PB had to leave after a little longer, and I decided to brave the W side of 93 by myself, mtnlions be damned.
Did the W side backwards (IMHO), then back across 93, up and over greenbelt and back.
Unbelievable weather. I had shorts and a long sleeve and short sleeve shirt, and seriously considered taking the longsleeve off. Lots of other riders out. Some wind, but even that didn't cool us off.
Pix - not too great, but here ya go.
1-PB, MHM and AC (1/2 head) ready to roll
    2-MHM
    3-night riders
    4-MHM
    5-PB

Andy, to post a picture you'll need the url (the web address of your picture). Usually you can right click the picture, go to properties, and copy its url from there.

    Then you use .

    example: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3057/...929c8f.jpg?v=0 " width="549">

    becomes with the spaces removed.

Also if you notice the little mountain icon on top of your comment bar...click it...insert your url in the pop up box and click ok....it'll add you picture with the code already attached.

Hope I explained that Layman enough

If ya still can't figure it out, come by for a ride on Green Mtn one morning and I'll give ya a tutorial on the cpu.

looks like a great ride. I really enjoyed Doudy Draw last time I was up that way. Haven't had a chance to hit it since they rerouted it.

Thanks for the tips Jeremy, that's kinda what I figured, but my pix aren't on a URL yet. Will have to work on that.

And remember, don't worry if you're a slow(er) rider. I can pretty much guarantee that I'm one of the slowest on the trails, so I've got last-in-line nailed down.

Hey guys, where's Marshall Mesa located at and maybe post some directions to the trailhead? I might try and make it out as soon as I get some new lights for my bike. I'm still pretty new to this area and looking for some cool riding partners myself.

Just speaking for myself, not sure if I'd qualify on the "cool" part, but...
See the 2nd post in this thread for general directions.
If that isn't enough for ya, let us know - we'll get ya there one way or another.

That actually doesn't help me very much. I'm still new enough to the area to not be able to make sense of that. Some more concrete directions would be nice. I work in Broomfield so I'd be heading that direction on 36 after work. I've only been here 3 months, moved from Cleveland, Ohio.

Potentially, but doubtful. Didn't realize MM is as close to Boulder as it is, I will probably opt for a night road ride from my house (south Denver). But we'll see!

I was thinking of taking the trail to the right, up the singletrack to Community Ditch, back down the re-route, and then back to the trailhead. Basically a counter-clockwise loop. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Alright I'm in, lights have been on the charger all day and I'm stoked. I'm coming up from Golden and gonna try and leave right at 5:00, so i should be there with plenty of wiggle room but if traffic is an issue (I have no idea?) then I might be squeezing it. See you fellas there!

Sorry for the unceremonious departure this evening but I got to the top of HPT and no lights behind so I decided after a couple of minutes to head in to town on the way home. Thanks for the invite and will join as often as possible. Also thanks on the light info. See you guys next week.

What? An earful? She knew you were going - no? Just longer than s'posed to be, or?
Good to meet Joe, Evan and Brian. No problem on the departure Brian. See you next time. I like that hub you got.
I am thinking about heading to West Mag next Tues. night. You reading this Ned'ers? Is it good to go up there still? At this point?
    If so, anyone in?

Wicked fun ride tonight! Good to meet everyone for sure. Andy and I rocked a loop on Doudy Draw after we split from Mark and Joe, super fun Ewok-style through the trees, very cool! Mark, sorry to hear you're in Dutch with the wife, hope you can make it out next week though. MM/DD is a touch far from my final destination, but the Southern Sun wings and IPA I had post ride make the journey complete!

You make any kind of handlebar mount for those? I don't like to run anything on top of my helmet tbh.

Yes, i have the handle bar mount and run a flood amoeba, combined with a Stella on the helmet. You really only need to run the amoeba! These lights are the $hit! and are super light! You won't be dissapointed with one of these! This one was a demo i tried for the 24hrs in the sage and I bought one as soon as i got back!

I've got a ton of crap to do tomorrow, so I don't know if I'll make MMAD tomorrow (12/2). If time/weather allows, I might do a quick thing from High Plains.

I rode High Plans to Greenbelt Plateau and then back. Only saw one other rider. The trails were in good shape, and I got back to my truck before the wind started. Hope to make it out to next Tuesday's ride.

I'm not going to make tonight's ride. Too cold, too wet, and I still don't have a pair of booties that fit. Yes, I'm a giant wuss.

I'm still planning on being there!
Someone report back if they know trail conditions don't warrant it.

Bumping this to see if anyone's interested in riding next Tuesday (1/20). While I'm enjoying the yoga classes at the gym, everything else is rotting my brain. As long as there's no hurricane-force winds, I'm game.

You realize next Tuesday is 1/13 right? I might be up for one of these rides depending on weather conditions (I finally got a light). This thread needs updated more so it's easier to tell when people are going to be there riding.

You're right, it is 1/13. *facepalm*

I'm going to try and make it a regular thing, as long as the trails aren't overly muddy/sloppy, and the weather isn't horrible.

Looks like the trails should be dry by next Tuesday (1/20). As long as the temps are decent, I'll be riding Tuesday night @ Marshall Mesa. The more the merrier, so come on out. Don't worry about being too slow, because I've got DFL covered.

How do these trails look for riding this weekend? With all the sun and warm weather this weekend, think they'll be dry for a Saturday or Sunday ride?

Sunday would probably be good. I'll check and post back.

Anything near Marshall Mesa rideable today? I am looking to avoid mud at all costs. Just gave the bike a bath, don't want to mess it up the first time I go out.

My last ride was a disaster involving lots of walking, as the mud was so thick it built up under my fork and stopped my front wheel from turning. It also knocked my chain off, messed up my front disk brake, and at one point my front tire sunk halfway into the gunk. Never again!

I should be there tomorrow for a little while. Haven't been riding much, so I'm looking to do a couple of short loops.

You should have made a new thread to avoid confusion. Too many replies and old information. I'd show up for sure, except I have dinner obligations with work staff from out of town this week. =/ Maybe next week though, we shouldn't even need lights!
Gotta get up to get down.

Only saw one other rider last night (after dark). Weather was great, hardly any wind, and only one fluffy bunny crossed my path.

Next week I 'm in. Agreed there should be a new MMAD thread. Let's make it happen.
