Good job! Buffalo Creek: Little Scraggy Trail Approved; Trail Work September 14th-15th

Let the fun begin!  Little Scraggy trail is about to become a reality.  On Saturday, September 14th  and Sunday, September 15th, we値l begin work on the newest trail in Buffalo Creek.  We will spend both days working on the Kelsey Campground loop and continuing on Little Scraggy loop. Since the main tread will have already been machine cut, we will focus on finishing the trail tread using hand tools.  We provide the tools and guidance so there痴 no experience necessary.

After the trail work on Saturday, we値l hang out and relax over an evening BBQ or feel free bring your bike and go for a ride. We値l be camping at Kelsey Campground Saturday night and there will be space for everyone.

Please register so we can plan accordingly and contact you if things should change.

We値l meet at Kelsey Campground Saturday morning at 9:15 am (see map).  It痴 about 3 miles south of the intersection of Forest Service Road 550 and Highway 126 on Highway 126.  Look for the COMBA sign.  We will have coffee and light breakfast items available on Saturday.

    Map

Dress in sturdy work clothes including boots, long pants (recommended), long sleeve shirt, work gloves, hat and sunglasses.  Remember to bring water, your own lunch, sunscreen and a pack to carry them in.  A hydration pack works great for this purpose.  If you plan on camping Saturday night, please bring extra water.  The campground will be officially closed and the water may be turned off.

Come for one day or both but come and help COMBA kick off the construction of the newest Buff Creek Trail!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Keith Clarke at keith.clarke@comba.org.  See you on the 14th!

Good question. The Little Scraggy loop will be approximately 9 miles in length with an additional .75 mile loop at Kelsey campground. The entire Scraggy loop will be a cross country trail with varying feels. The east, south and west sides of the loop will each have a different feel due to the terrain. We are starting on the east side which will be fast and flowy singletrack, running through open forest and incorporating natural rock features. If all goes well, this 4 mile portion of the trail will be completed late in the 2014 riding season. Hope this helps and c'mon out and join us this weekend.

Change in COMBA's Weekend Trail Work Plans!!

Due to the sketchy weather forecast for Sunday, we are canceling Sunday's trail work. We will still be working on Saturday (tomorrow) and will have a light breakfast and the post-work BBQ for the volunteers. You are welcome to camp this evening but we will be closing the campground when we are done Saturday afternoon.

Join us for tomorrow's trail work and kick start the newest trail in Buff Ck. Again, details and registration info are at the top of this thread. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at keith.clarke@comba.org and I hope to see you tomorrow.

    Thanks again!

Thanks to the 25 volunteers that came out yesterday and helped us being construction of Little Scraggy loop. We finished about half of the Kelsey campground loop portion of the trail which was phenomenal. You know who you are and you knocked it out of the park yesterday. Thanks again!

Stay tuned for an upcoming work day in October and hopefully some efforts to repair some of the JCOS trails.
