Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! the little red hen (wanna ride in clear creek?)

    start here:
    Clear Creek County, yo...
It might be, it could be...
    I doubt anyone's interested, but...

    then read this:
    http://www.enchantedlearning.com/sto...eredhen/story/

    ok...
last year manmountaindense caught my attention w/ his posts of potential-new-trail-waiting-to-be-built just up the road in clear creek county (idaho springs); i saw an opportunity to see if COMBA might be able to lend a hand (whatever that ultimately means) to help get this initiative off the ground.

long story short, today MMD took jasonb (fellow COMBA board member) & i on a hike thru just a part of this vision. we believe the idea has merit. that said, we (will) need your help to see this come to fruition...

i'd like to organize an "ad hoc" group of like-minded folks that want to see new trail built above idaho springs; but you have to be willing to participate-- whether that means w/ specific skills (like athalliah who's volunteered to be our resident cartographer) or eager to donate time to pickup a shovel/pulaski when the time comes. note: there may be opportunities for motivated individuals to get USFS certified "crew leader" training (it's one thing to want to build a trail, it's another to know how to build a proper sustainable trail). if you've got the time and the interest, contact me for details.

so, if you are willing to step up, drop us a line or post up here. any grant writers out there?

    terry@comba.org
    jason@comba.org

keep in mind this is a long-term project in the preliminary stages, but may ultimately result in bike-only trails, designed by bikers, w/in an hour of denver.

I am interested in lending a hand. Please keep in the loop. No specific skills that probably pertain... except for digging.

Hey all -- first of all, thanks to Got Dirt and COMBA for getting behind this. As some of you may know, my wife has accepted a job in Austin, Texas. We're keeping our house in Dumont, but my time will be divided between here and there in the future.

I hope to continue to be involved in this project and to do whatever I can to see it through, but unfortunately I won't be around quite as much. So I'm really happy to see so many people interested in helping make this happen, and to have the COMBA guys stepping up so big. I can't thank them enough.

If you want to see a "dream scenario" map of what could be, you can visit:

    http://clearcreektrails.com/idaho_topo.html

My guess is that something that resembles the pink trail furthest to the right looks like the most likely opportunity, based on what we saw hiking it. Top to bottom, it would be about 1 - 1.3 miles long, with about 1,200 feet of descending, with a shuttle access from the top of Virginia Canyon Road.

As I said, this is a dream scenario. Keep your fingers crossed...

No, if this is what MMD was telling me about last summer, it's on the south facing slope you see north of I70 in Idaho Springs.
But I hope the clear creek link happens someday. Soon would be nice but not likely. It would be sweet to be able to ride from Golden to CCone on singletrack!

Thank you, Bill, for getting this process rolling! COMBA has 10 spots available for the USFS certified and led trail building class taking place on the weekend of May 2nd. If you are interested in trail construction this is a unique opportunity to receive instruction and training in a professional setting for free! See the contact information above.

I volunteer FrontRanger. He cares about trails and stuff.

Oh, and I'll help too if there isn't much work involved. Not a big fan of work. I can also build the trail a Linux server if needed.

    Listen! P.s.

just wanted to clarify that you do not need to be a COMBA member to be a part of this (we would, of course, appreciate it if you were, but will not require it).

also, again this is in the early stages, but the initial vision includes all levels of trails, taking advantage of the superb terrain above idaho springs, to include XC, AM, FR/DH... and notably, some would be bike-only.

I would love to help out and even bring my own shovel (digging would be all im good for.) Work may not be friendly with me helping only because I'm on call a lot.

    Good job! step one: complete

meeting this morning w/ idaho springs was extremely positive...

those of you above, look for an email from me soon as we formulate the best plan to proceed. barring anything unforeseen (like some native endangered species or something-- knock on wood) i don't see why this initiative can't come to fruition. it will take a lot of work, but the benefits look to be huge for the front range riding community.

    let the fun begin.
