OK, I'm looking forward to next summer...

I need a new snow-based passtime if I'm going to enjoy winter again, snowboarding at resorts is fun but I don't have the motivation to make it up much anymore, the drive is rarely worth it for me and I don't have the cash to stay up there too often... Snowshoes are ok but I think I may need to get into ski touring or maybe just xc...

I bought some snow shoes last winter. I'd go trucking around South Mesa Trail, around and around. Then I realized I could just huff around and around in the park behind my house. Then I realized I didn't have to do any of that at all.

Now it's my hardtail on my trainer and basketball. I'm on my trainer as I type this watching the Donkos.

Lol, just thought I'd share GaySexChicken's latest neg-rep:

"Only a ****** bag posts pics months after they are taken."

He is such a charmer, and too cowardly to leave his name... CowardlyGaySexChicken it is!

If you haven't you should do the other side of the Hwy for a fall aspen ride. I wouldn't say it has all the attributes of going to Georgia pass, but it's a nice change of pace and has some beautiful aspen groves.

You should know the protocol for this site, no pretty pictures of rides unless they are posted the same day. Ah, the Christmas spirit is alive and well. I think chicken is off for his annual chess club convention so it may not have been him who left you that rep.

Haha yeah he got me too. Not sure why he posts here everything he says is nonsense.

Great pics BTW Kenosha is awesome in the fall.

EDIT: CowardlyGaySexChicken just left this one for me: "It's only nonsense when you are too stupid to understand it." Charming indeed.

Beautiful pics. I missed riding Kenosha this year...too much cyclocross.

But why miss summer? Seriously, you live in a four season playground. Snowshoes can be dull when you use them just to snowshoe around. It's not like biking in which the activity itself is really exciting. Skiing, IMO, is like biking in that regard. You can start with basic XC skis and ski either at nordic centers (Eldora, Happy Jack, Frisco/Breck) or just ski easy trails and roads. Once you get the hang of it, it is tons of fun. You can buy fatter skis with burly boots if you want to do more up and down (maybe even some telemark turns), or skinny skis if you want to kick and glide fast.

Snowshoes are great for destination-focused outings--climbing a peak or traveling to remote lakes. It that case it's pretty much just winter hiking.

Nice pics, I definitely need some xc skis of some sort. It's been a while since I've been on alpine skis... like the early 90's... but I think I still remember the general concept

I do have snowshoes... it's a lot like hiking but colder.
