    Just drove by Green Mountain

The damn thing's on fire. So, I guess there's one more reason not to ride it.

No, its on the North-East side of GM. If your looking west from Denver you could see it.

Just hope that it doesn't spread anymore then it has.

The last time, it was the West side --
Most likely cause -- someone who thinks their "ashtray" in their car is for spare change, cell phone batteries and Starbuck's receipts.

I mean, throwing your cigarette butt out the window, how could that be littering, right?

"Hey, honey! All those ritzy houses in ( 6th Ave Estates, Mt. Vernon, Genesee, Evergreen, Conifer -- insert Mountain area of choice here -- ) are on fire!
Wow -- weren't we driving right past there a couple hours ago? Jeez -- what a shame, tsk, tsk, tsk.....Say, have you seen my pack of Winstons anywhere?"

    And so it goes...............

Shh...I saw some Jeffco guys smoothening out some gravel and so threw a pebble at them in rage. It struck another pebble, did the flint thing, and next thing I know, all hell was breaking loose. I did see a midget Ranger launching himself into the arms of a larger one in fear but that's neither here nor there....

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

Ahhh, yeah -- I can read just fine............
I know that THIS time it was a lightning strike.
Last time, probably a cig from someone on c-470.

I was just alluding to the fear that all of us that live up here have about all the cigarettes flying out of car windows, flung from the fingers of people that don't have their brains fully engaged.

Isn't Blue Mountain right next to Green Mountain on the color chart?

I thought I smelled something burning.

The live view from my home-on-wheels in Wheat Ridge:

We're off to Crested Butte early tomorrow morning for a quick three (maybe four) day trip. Just in time, it appears!

From the 9news pics, it looks like the trails are serving as good fire breaks. Glad there is a really wide, over used trail section next to my casa.

Oh man, I hope that thing doesn't jump 470 and hit the hogback! If it does, there's still one more barrie, but it could get REALLY ugly if that happens! I think the wind is blowing the wrong way for it to happen tho.

Just saw an update (I noticed the thing burning about the time TVC posted)... it has really come around to the North side. Winds are still easterly, but that's not helping much still.

Could see the smoke from Boulder on my way home.

But it's a mere grass fire. You won't even be able to even tell next season.

    Black and Tan Mountain

    I dig the new name!

The west side of the mountain looks like it always does... You can't even tell that anything went down...

I think to avoid the "stink factor" I may just play at Bear Creek Lake Park... It's a great place to practice bunny hopping over loads of horse poo... Hmmmm that adds a whole realm of the "stink factor". It's a Catch 22...

Some more pictures of the burn. The burn covers the new loop at the north end, but you can get between the top of Box o' Rox trail (aka Rusty Sign Trail) and the fire road without going through the burn. The most surprising thing I saw had nothing to do with the fire - they closed the steep trail on that little hill by 470. Not sure what's going on with Jeffco Open Space, did they get sued by a mountain biker or something?

Unless green got sold, it's not part of JCOS. It's owned by Lakewood...but I guess it might be partially managed by JCOS...hence why it can ridden until 10pm at night unlike JCOS properties...

Interesting that trail got closed...wasn't exactly sustainable though. Wonder if they shut down that other trail that went steeply down the east side of a ridge on the western side of the mountain...that one is way worse sustainability wise.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, they are planning on shutting it down, or maybe already have. On National Trails Day, we worked on a new trail (reroute) of that section of trail. Didn't complete it, but haven't been up to check it out yet either.
Maybe I'll head over there now!

I haven't hit GM yet this season. It's a nice and cool day. Me thinks it's time to take out the HT and hit it UP. I love the smell of burnt grass in the morning.
