Riding 2-3 hours that afternoon. I'll be warmed up and ready by 6. : )

Forecast says 31 degrees at 6pm; 24 degrees by 9pm. Dress warm.

Jacks had a skiff of snow by Noon today. None on lower Gold Camp as of 10pm tonight. 30% in the forecast tonight, so I'm thinking the big blizzard was a non-event, at least here. We should be good to go.

If I get back from the ride tomorrow in time, I'll post conditions.

I'll need a light tomorrow night, if possible. If not, we're getting sun late enough to peel off at dark if need be.

BTW - rear brake fixed today. That was a PITA. But the fork apparently has a warranty issue as well - Fox is sending out an oil cartridge. Bike still works, but I'll be taking it a bit easy again on downhills. Or just run 9 pounds up front. : )

See you guys tomorrow at 6.

It is going to be a cold one tonight! My hands are already scared... I guess one more blast of sub freezing temps will really make me appreciate the warmer rides to come.

Even though a bit nippley out there tonight, I had a really great time.

Yeah, I drove home without my shoes and the heat on full blast. I couldn't feel them until about I-25 (don't ask how I found and used the brake pedal), and then from Tejon to Interquest I had that awful pain and pins + needles feeling that happens when the blood returns to your extremeties (thank goodness for cruise control). That is the coldest my feet have ever been in a very long time! It was a good ride though--thanks to all of the hearty folk who showed up!

Gosh I hate that tingling, clubbed-foot feeling. My feet were a little cold, but I managed to stay warm otherwise.

I was telling Jay that that ride went from group ride to an 'every-man/woman-for-themselves' ride. I think we were broke up into four groups towards the end there. Not a big deal since it was just Jack's; everyone knows at least 3 ways to get back down.

I'll hopefully post some video later, we shall see what my day has in store for me. It was so cold that no hands were ungloved to take photos last night, so I only have boring chest cam footage. Something tells me that, on this ride, no one cares about multimedia. Lol..

Cold for sure, but mostly for me it was a clothing issue. Got fooled by the warmer-than-forecast afternoon ride yesterday.

Did manage to get some photos. Here's one. The link will bring up the larger version. Did a sort of painted look for this one.

Congrats to fellow disciples of dirt who braved the cold to ride last night!

So I was thinking that this Sat. we should do a HAB up to the top of St. marys and then ride back down like we did with 7 bridges the other weekend. I am thinking that we should do it Sat. so that Todd can come since he had to miss out on the AME. What does everyone think?

I'll be in the field Sat-Mon. But, tomorrow I have off. Work will slow down eventually and I'll be able to make some rides. If anyone is game tomorrow my schedule is open for whatever anybody might have in mind. I'm thinking multiple runs in Palmer to prep for The Captain. So all of the most tech. stuff in the park. If that doesn't work or we decide to ride some where else aswell, thats fine too.

Sounds like fun, but my oldest is turning 4 in Saturday. I should probably stick around. . She is getting her Speci Hotrock though. I'll have her trailing me in Ute soon!

As it stands. Myself and Paul are meeting up at Palmer, Edna Mae lot at 0900. Once I wear myself out on those runs I'm good for a trip closer to Ft. Carson and the mountain area's.

When my 9yr old daughter got her FS Mongoose and graduated to the easy trails in Palmer then took on the big ass hill by our house. She said "Dad, i'm gonna make it up that hill today" That was a geat feeling.

Well lets shoot for 11am at the stratton lot and go up from there. Should be a fun hike a bike. Nice warm day also, might even be riding on super tacky trails if the weather guessers are right about tomorrow.

Jay, Paul - looks like I might be climbing in the Garden on Sunday afternoon. You guys are welcome to join. Anyone who wants to come out, we're probably looking at 1 or 2 pm after a Sunday morning ride, and should be doing some easy stuff. PM me.

Hey - Just a thought for tomorrow.

Rather than hiking the bike, how about riding up Gold Camp to 381 and on to the top of St. Mary's trail at the head of Buffalo Canyon? Lots of riding, no hiking, huge downhill, and hopefully not too much snow getting there.

Here's what Tunnel #4 looked like last weekend:

Im doing the Hike up and come down because I have never ridden down it before and that captain race is a race run down it. So im using it as a excuse to scout lines and such, because the top has some pretty narly switchbacks and rock moves if I remember from the last time i hiked up instead of riding the long way around to jones park.

Jim, we will frequently take gold camp all the way up to FR379 but am with Arin on this one and want to do the HAB. In a sick weird way I really enjoy it...

Also am very interested in climbing the Garden especially if we are doing easy routes. Unfortunately I have limited gear and would probably just have to just follow...

Arin, got it! Makes perfect sense - much easier to scout lines on the way up. It's cool that you're going to do the race.

Jay, no worries, I've got a ton of gear. All you'll need is a harness and shoes. Don't forget to have a current permit. It's free at the Visitor Center. We'll meet in the North Lot at 2pm. Only one or two other takers, so pretty small group.

If the North Lot is full, drive around a bit, usually there's a lot of people coming and going. I'm planning on the west side climbs - N or S Gateway Rock, or the Twin Spires. Routes would be West Point (5.7) Credibility (5.9) Cowboy (5.6) Finger Ramp (5.7 or 5.8) or Potholes (5.7) - depending on what's available. Mountain Project has maps and lots of info.

She hauls on that thing. Is it not put a smile on your face riding with your kids. Good job!

Ha ha, what's funny is nick showed me a similar face plant video of his son on his strider. Starting to see a market for striders with brakes..

    Good seeing you all again!

Wish we had a little bigger turn-out today, but I had a really good, long day. After parting ways at St. Mary's cutoff, I went up GC to 381 and in to the top of St. Mary's to see if I could catch you guys at the top. It was 1:10 when we split off; I arrived near the top at 2:40.

I say "near" the top b/c the last drainage before St. Mary's had drifts as it swung round to the north aspect, about 1/2 mile from the point where Mary's hits 381 - and I'd had enough of winter this year. Turned back at elev. 10050. FR 381 at Mary's is 9901 - so it was slightly downhill, but just didn't feel like messing with the snow.

Got a few photos today, not many, and most were shots of the "scenic route." I'll post later.

Oh, Arin - GC is good to go all the way. Snow in a few spots, but nothing more than a muddy track through a drift here and there, mostly just after Tunnel #4. Halfway to Tunnel 5, there's no snow from there all the way up to where I encountered drifts on 381.

This week was unique. The cold caught us by surprise; plans take on a life of their own. No music this week, I feel like the raw sound is more fitting.

Wow Jim, awesome pic and thank for the tour of the Garden. I had no idea I looked that extreme on the rock! What it does not show is how I was trying my best not to be completely terrified!

It would be cool to get some of the other inflexibles out on the rock!

We'll be climbing in the Garden again on Sunday. Meet at 2:15 in the North Lot. Let me know if you're planning to swing by. Pretty much easy stuff.
