I was confused at the racist comment, so I had to do a little reading to find the connection.
One point that stood out was that figs aren’t a fruit, the crunchy seeds are actually the unfertilized ovaries of the underdeveloped blossom. So I guess my proclaiming the joys of eating figs might better be labeled as misogynistic, rather than racist.
Last shopping day before the biggest holiday of the year.
Has everyone been practicing the dance in preparation? Oh, joy!
"A common way to celebrate National Fig Newton Day is to make homemade fig bars. The ingredients in fig bars are typically all purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla extract, butter, salt, brown sugar and either fresh or dried figs. Recipes will vary in the quantity and types of ingredients used.
When making the bars, some recipes call for the fig filling to be placed on one half of a layer of rolled out dough, followed by folding the other half of dough over the filling. Another way is for the dough to be placed on a baking sheet, then a layer of filling and followed by a top layer of dough. In either method, the final baked product is then cut into individual servings."
