    Help getting new bike

Hi im a high school student in boulder and i am looking to get a new bike. I do tons of trail riding and i am going to start racing this spring and summer for my school. Right now i have a iron horse maverick and its a good bike but its getting to small and it dosnt have great components and i want something with a little bit more travel. I would like some suggestions for some good bikes for my needs. Right now i think i can afford around the $ 1500 range.

for trail riding and racing? What kind of racing do you plan on doing? Look on craigslist. Also read the reviews on MTBR of the bike.

When I think racing, I think DH racing. And trail riding on a Reign X will still work alright. If its trail riding and XC racing, get a used Trance or Trance X. Giant makes great bikes for lower prices than most others.

I got my wife a very lightly used Trance 2 last fall for $1K.

Buy a lightweight hardtail you are young and it will be the best bike to XC racing.

Neither do I, I am currently getting my telepathic mind bullets ready

Oh, and a Specialized Enduro is a good trail bike. I got my from WS Bike and they have more last year's models they're selling pretty cheap. Its the off season, I bet you could push them to get a good deal.

X2 on Giant, both of mine have been trouble free and were both at a decent price. You can also find a shop that has the "Freedom to Ride" finance program then you can stretch your dollar a little further as long as you're disciplined enough to kill the financing in <= 12 months

Then the hardtail advice is spot-on.

Check mtbr classifieds and ebay for great deals that come up on all sorts of used bikes. Allot from riders in your area denver/boulder/co springs. (some guys change out there factory rides every year.)
You want more travel for x/c, but doesn't the Iron Horse Maverick come in at about 100mm travel ?
One option would be to put a new "pushed" shock on it and it would feel like it has an inch more travel, then change the rubber and have it ride like a new bike. I recently found a used factory ride for xc Trek team issue Top Fuel carbon 90mm travel for 700 bucks. (frame only)

Very cool my man, where do you do your riding I rarely if ever see younger riders out and always wondering why? Your probably lucky enough to get out before us old working farts are done for the day and plug up the trails.

Good luck and stick with the hardtail.

i mostly ride around golden like white, apex, mathew winters, deer creek canyon, chimney gulch, mnt. falcon and dakota ridge. I also really like some of the trails in boulder and lyons like hall.
