Happy New Year ride in Monument

A small group of us got out for some fun riding this morning in Monument. The conditions were really variable: glare ice, bare dirt, refrozen footprints, and deep snow. It was a good time, despite 3 flats (2 of which were mine).

Temps were reasonable and the wind was almost non-existent. Studs were the right call for the day. I brought along my fatbike (due to loose grips on my studded tire bike), which made things a bit challenging.

    Thanks for the ride, guys!

Oops, I guess those presta valve nuts should actually be installed:

Yeah we were up there today as well

Made the wrong choice and tried to ride upper 715, snow was so deep we turned around and rode down the road to middle stoopid. Dummy me crashed on the road and ended my day, Kristian, Jaydude and mikey V. rode the trail but the ice, deep snow and near impossible conditions made it tough, weather was beautiful.

    Will post pictures soon

    Happy New Year

Hope the crash was nothing too serious, Joe. We were amazingly crash free.

Hang in there Joe - hope not too serious. We saw your vehicle when we got back, was wondering how you guys fared - super low pressures worked but a lot of studded tire riding out there on the "ribbons of ice" in the preserve and MHR. Even riding from the Scout entrance on 715 was tough on Fri (brad did it afternoon to cut fresh slush tracks), and we tried on saturday in the deep crust - not consistently ridable for the 4 of us downhill even. Sunday BP was ridable (cleaned by several in the group on the uphill from the memorial to the ridge), Flow/Flying dogs were ridable after the wind packed it all! I bet upper 715 was deep indeed and is going to need a snowshoe crew in there.

Good way to start the year on the bike guys!

Thanks all, here are some of us

Was a good time, some of the worst conditions I have ever seen, hopefully the warm weather will take care of that.
