Golden City Brewery

I finally made it down here today. I first stopped in at the Coors Brewery, the largest brewery in the world (so they say) then went to GCB, the second largest brewery...in Golden.

From the macro to the micro, the operative term at GCB is "intimate". Yes indeedy, a small place but can expand out to the outdoor seating area during warm times. Even on a Monday afternoon the regulars kept streaming in.

I don't go to these shoots to drink beer but I'll sip a few. I tried the Evolution IPA, the Mad Molly Brown and the Fireroasted Pumpkin Ale. One sip of each. Nice.

GCB is a great little place. Use to go there in college and had a keg of their creme ale at our wedding back in '05.

I go to the Zoo, not to look at animals, but to inspect their cages.

I go to rock concerts. Not because I like music, but those rockers wear some really cool clothes!

Dohhhhh!!!! Details left out, two brewers from Vine Street are starting it. I'm sure what ever comes out of the place is going to be AWESOME. I hope he does a version of the Java Porter..... I could live on that stuff.

Did someone mention Southern Sun? I shot both Mountain and Southern Sun a few days. Tasted the Vagabond at Mountain Sun (very yummy) and the Colorado Kind at Southern Sun.

I'm not an ESB drinker usually. Matt, the assistant manager at Southern Sun, poured me a glass of Colorado Kind (he called it "Hoppy Amber-ESB") for me to shoot. After the pic you see I did indeed taste it and WOW. It was all I could do to stop at three sips (had a drive home through rush hour traffic) but I could see sessioning that stuff.

Well, if that new brewpub is smaller, then yes of course. And, if the new brewpub is bigger, then technically YES... since Coors actually annexed itself OUT of Golden years and years ago IIRC.



(What I am saying is technically GCB is actually the largest brewery in Golden, currently.)

More details: Brian Hutchinson was the head brewer for the three Mountain Sun breweries for a few years before embarking on his dream to operate his own place. He is a great brewer, great guy (as is his partner, Jason) and a longtime friend. I was just in his new place (Cannonball Creek) yesterday - it's gonna be badass. The hang inside will be slick, and there will be a large-ish patio once the weather accommodates. I parked there to sample the new north table mountain trails, and was ready for a pint! ...soon!
