Economic Impact of US Pro Challenge road race in Colorado

Just saw this news from Bicycle Colorado. Very cool!
    ************************************************** **************

"The 2012 USA Pro Challenge reached attendance numbers of more than 1 million fans for the seven-day stage race, which took place Aug. 20 to 26. A study by a global sports research firm shows the race had an estimated $99.6 million economic impact in Colorado. Direct spending by traveling spectators made up the most significant portion of the economic impact.

The 2012 race attracted spectators from at least 25 states, with 53 percent of spectators claiming they would not have traveled to Colorado at this time were it not for the race. Fans traveled to 12 towns for the official stage starts and finishes over the 683-mile course.

Colorado also benefited from 31 hours of television coverage highlighting our state's beautiful terrain and was broadcast internationally to 175 countries and territories around the world."

It will be interesting to see how the doping scandals hit the race next year.

It won't be doping "scandals", it'll be who and how many Tygart puts on his personal **** list to go after in the coming months. He's just getting started. He could theoretically target hundreds (his eyes glaze over at the idea of bringing down so many elite athletes).

It'll be forgotten by next August. We tend to have very short attention spans.
