Echo Mountain up for sale...DH future??

Echo Mountain up for sale. I have always thought that it would be in a perfect position for some DH action being so close to the front range. This is a telling sentence: "The area's summertime potential is ripe for expansion and the ski area could more than double its vertical drop. "

Great opportunity for the DH/FR community to step up.

Form a non profit and raise money or search for investors to run it as a for profit corporation.

Or... they can keep wishing for something to happen sometime in the future by someone else.
Take the long cut, we'll get there eventually.

Anybody know what the yearly liability insurance tab is for a business like Echo Mountain?

There's the question. And since CO did not make MTB an "inherently dangerous" sport, like skiing, the liability for allowing a DH park would likely be prohibitive - either in profit margin or lift ticket pricing.

Make the rider responsible for their rides and that cost goes way down, so it becomes possible for a small operator like Echo.

If some folks in the DH community wanted to seriously entertain the possibility on this I'd get some real legal/business advise on what the issues are.

IMBA might be a good place to start.

    Hmmmm

I have not been up there is a couple of years, (used to drive my kids up for snowboarding),
but as I recall that it was pretty short runs, to short to serve anything but a terrain park type of run, certainly in my opinion, too short for any kind of DH run.
I thought they were limited by surrounding private property that prevented them from much expansion.

Agreed, too short for a real DH run.
Also northern facing so by the time it dries out, Winter Park, Keystone and Sol Vista will all be open too.
