    Dodged a bullet

Coming back from a great ride in Wyo. at Curt Gowdy and Vedauwoo Fri. I got pulled over by the CSP on Hwy 287 between Laramie and Fort Collins. Man, I hate to see those rollers in the rearview.
Long story short: 72 in a 65, burned out brake light, and no change of address on my drivers license (I guess that's suppose to be done within 90 days of moving, oops.)
I was more than relieved when he told me he was only giving me a warning. I figure he was probably trolling for drunks on Fri eve. And the carseats in the back probably helped, too.
The lucky thing was I had brought a couple of beers in a cooler and for whatever reason didn't crack one for the drive home like I almost always do if I have the foresight to bring a cold one. Instead I popped the mountain dew I brought, and I figure if I'd have had an open container it would have been a much longer stop.

And, BTW, Curt Gowdy is sweet.

Maybe you should consider that a wake-up call to never drink and drive again...

Well, I understand where your coming from, but I'm talking about one beer. If I would have had it at the trailhead before I left, I wouldn't have been over the limit. I'm not talking about driving drunk. Which I would never do.

Curt Gowdy State Park has turned out to be some fun riding. Day there, and a day at Happy Jack/Vedauwoo is pretty good riding for a weekend.

hee hee... true. Is there really any difference between between having a post ride beer and 'cracking' one while your driving?

Prolly not, but one is truely illegal.

I would guess that drinking in a trailhead parking lot may well be illegal in a lot of places too. Just sayin...

Used to be passengers could imbibe on the road here in Colorful Colorado. But apparently no longer.

Gov. Bill Owens has signed a bill into law banning consumption and possession of open containers of alcohol in vehicles traveling Colorado’s public roadways.

The new law, previously HB1122, also frees up millions in federal dollars for improving Colorado roads.

Colorado law had prohibited drivers from having an open alcoholic beverage, but passengers 21 years of age or older are free to drink while in a moving vehicle.

The new ban eliminates the open container provision. The new law goes into effect July 1 this year.

    Violators could be fined $57.80.

Not sure if it's worth $60....

Wyoming is the next Colorado in terms of riding. They have some great, untapped stuff up there with 1/50th the user density. If I find a job up that way, that's were I'm headed.

    yep, good day, all told.

Cops have a saying "5 yer fine 9 yer mine."
    Never heard that, hilarious.

My pics don't compare to Nickle's, especially in terms of action and air, but here's some others from my ride. Wyoming is the new Colorado? Can't argue there.

    Curt G.:

    Vedauwoo

Vedauwoo's a super short ride, fun but short, with a cool lunar-like landscape. Since it's only about 15 min away from C.Gowdy it's worth a stop. There's probably some way to link em up that I don't know.
