    Divide Tour

Anyone know a rider in this year's ride. Always enjoy tracking the riders and reading the blogs. Insane. Doesn't look like Dave Nice is going this year, can't blame him, once is probably enough of this ride.

My good friend Karlos from FL is lining up this year, plus a few other acquaintances from the southeast.

    Godspeed and tailwinds to all!

Anyone who even attempts this race just amazes me. It's such a huge commitment whether you're in it to win it or not.

Agreed! Thanks for the link. I became fascinated with this "race" over the winter and think I've read just about every blog and account of it now.

It is really great to track online when you know someone in it.. a friend did it a few years back and nearly won, I think it came down to who could sleep less..

those people are just plain crazy though..

My buddy Sean Putnam is a rookie this year! He's been training hard, and that got him a 5th at the Stagecoach 400 in So Cal.

    Good Luck Sean!

I just looked at the tracking map...is 141 riders unusually high participation? I had the impression from the documentary and a few books I've read that the number is usually closer to 40. I'm super excited for the participants...my heart rate jumped 50 bpm thinking about what the start of such a grand adventure must feel like!

Leader already at 78 miles. Anyone remember the name of the guy who won last year? I think he was from New Zealand. He and another guy rode together until almost through New Mexico. Ezra Hornazek won the womens and I don't see her name on this years roster.

For fans of Eszter, here's her blog:

    Zen On Dirt

She didn't include the TD in her plans for 2013. For anybody, but especially somebody as driven as she is, doing TD pretty much dominates the whole year. She wasn't really recovered from that effort until well into the fall.

Just now she's getting over a knee issue.

That woman owns more ultra-endurance records than it's easy to count. I'd say she's pretty much the Michael Jordan/Eddy Merckx/Tiger Woods of women's ultra-endurance cycling.

She also has a graduate degree in Physics.

12 mph average moving speed on the two leaders. Maybe I could do that.

For 18 hours each day. Nevermind.

So what happens if part of the route is in a fire evacuation zone? It goes pretty close to the West Fork Fire complex

I saw a response on the bikepacking forum which said they will take the shortest detour possible, but also the administrators will make a decision as the riders get closer to closures. Apparently the northbounders will have a big problem with the flooding in Alberta and washed out bridges. Mike Hall doesn't seem to stop for anything, He's already in Breckenridge and was in Steamboat this morning, crazy stuff.

First rider came in last night. Mike Hall from UK rode 197 miles per day at avg riding speed of 11.8 mph. Not bad for 2867 miles. 8.2 mph for the entire elapsed time for the ride. Must not sleep much.
