Well folks, after 6 long years you can now ride the CDT on the Cumbres Pass from the train station to the Flat Mt. boundary of the San Juan Wilderness. And we have the Volunteers Outdoor Colorado to thank for this.
If you do any sort of recreation in Colorado, please consider joining the VOC at this link. And if you live in Colorado and are not part of this organization, all I can wonder is why not?
They embrace Mt. Bikers, Hikers and Horse People, they work on wilderness as well as non-motorized/non-wilderness trails, they maintain culturally significant sites and they are just a well organized fun bunch of folks to hang out with! So please consider supporting them!
For those who live within a reasonable distance of the Cumbres Pass, we have established a Yahoo Group called the Friends of the Cumbres CDT. This group will focus on doing 2-3 days a season of trail maintenance and development up on the pass now that the trail is open. Just ask to join the group if you want to commit yourself to preserving this gem of a trail!
And remember, you can't ride a trail that hasn't been built, so what are you going to build today?
