Hello all,
Wondering about riding the CT from Copper to Camp Hale, or going the other direction. Any advice on how long this takes (I know that it varies a lot but any guess as to distance and time will help). One direction better than the other? Thanks.
Click on a name in the table, and check their spot times. Their bikes were loaded and they'd been at it for several days already, but it'll give you a reasonable estimate. Figure out who was about 10th - anyone who started that race is a superhero, but the top 10 are even beyond that!
as per the CT databook...
Highway 91 to Camp Hale TH is 18.6 miles
9.7miles to top of Searle Pass,
3.2 more at elevation to kokomo Pass
last 5.7 are pretty much all downhill
Camp Hale is 400ft lower than Copper.
I rode from Copper to Camp Hale on my through ride of the CT, it was awesome, I haven't ridden it the other direction but it would seem harder, IMO. Lots of climbing on steep gravel and babyheads. The climb up from Copper is all really nice singletrack once past the ski runs and there's lots of nice stuff to keep your mind off the climbing, there's a tiny bit of hike-a-bike near the top of Searle Pass.
The descent down to Camp hale is fun, I'm sure the descent down to Copper going the other direction would be really good too.
Don't know about length of time as I camped half way up and stopped for lots of photo ops.
