    COS Night Ride 2/20/2013

Kristian mentioned in last week's post about riding up near his house this week. It's hella icy out near my place (Cheyenne Canyon), how is the Black Forest area? I'm down for anything. Forecast doesn't seem to be calling for any more precip.

Krisitan-- what is the terrain like up there? Lots of open rock and rock faces or mostly "dirt"? I need to know if I should change out of my studded tires.

Its all good, you will enjoy the trails. SS or 29er is the best option out that way

I know Kman was talking about turning the weds ride out at black forest into a bike-wrenching night in his garage if the weather is crap
(wednesday is a high of 34 with 30% chance of precip)

but i'm always up for some smooth/flowy BFRP trailz that wander around massive houses

Black forest is all dirt (mostly sand and gravel actually). The trails are mostly skid steerer cut trails, but anyone who I've taken out there will agree that the trails have an incredible amount of flow for being wide trails that go through a neighborhood.

As of two Sundays ago when Joe and I rode there, everything was free of ice, but since then we've had some freeze/thaw cycles so it's hard to know. I have very little snow in my yard though so I'm guessing that most everything has melted. We'll probably do my standard loop which is about 12 miles of fairly high paced riding, but we can cut or extend that as desired.

If you know where I live, let's meet at my house at 6:00 and leave a little after that. Shoot me a PM if you need directions. I'll get some Papa Murphy's pizzas and have my babysitter throw them in when we're almost done so we can chow on pizza and watch bike movies when we are finished (please bring a change of clothes and shoes though since we'll be in the living room instead of out on the patio). Please post up so I know how many pies to buy. You're welcome to bring beer if you want to. If you have any good movies, bring them too.

If the weather gets too snowy to ride up there (probably more than 5"), I'm up for doing a maintenance night instead.

In for sure and hoping for just the right amount of snow. I remember conditions being pretty sweet with some moisture on those trails.

I thinki a fist bump is in order for two reasons. I am a big baby and bruise easily. How can you not enjoy a Jar jar line with all this talking of star wars.

Ok I am not much of a fighter any ways, my rant may offend all the jar-jar lovers out there but he sucks caulk and ruined star wars forever, lol....

    Stupid weather.
The only issue there is that if we get 4" of snow (read 6"+ in Black Forest), I don't want to make my mom battle through it to come babysit. If that's the case, I might need to do a rapid change of plans and venue (unless you guys want to ride without me and just have pizza afterwards which is cool too).

No problem. Text me your address. As seats fill up, we will coordinate pickup times.

The ride was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Star Wars light speed was in full effect and the traction couldn't have been better. It started snowing right about 6:00 and there were probably about 3" of snow on the ground for the second half of the ride. I got an ice cream headache on two of the descents!

The Force was strong with us tonight my Jedi friends!

Yes the force was strong and with the help of our Jedi powers and light sabers, light speed was achieved!

I have an idea that I want to run past the whole Inflexibles crowd. I want to create a website that chronicles all our rides. The intention is not to replace our forum posts, but rather to enhance our experience over time. The site will be very similar to a blog wherein new ride posts go to the top and you can scroll down through the rides. One of the reasons for this is so we can view the photos and videos from our good times without having to wade through all the previous forum threads.

I already do most of the work that would be needed before I post my photos here anyways, I could just upload them to the new site and link to in the thread after each ride instead. It would probably save me time.

But since I am kinda a new member to the crew, I wanted to ask what you guys think and if you see any reason for not doing it. Reply inline or PM, thanks.

I'm all for this idea, I can be of help too if needed... could allow for customizing how we want videos/images to display versus having to adhere to MTBR's system

Ok, first video edit ready. I learned a lot about video editing today. I stooped to using Molly's Mac...booo The quality really took a beating in processing and uploading to Youtube. There are a lot of things I plan on trying next. I have no idea if this embedded link will work; I am so unimpressed with MTBR flash based software's compatibility. If you don't see the video, follow the link at the bottom.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-KA9oefkcXo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I think this could be really cool but my concern is keeping interest in the site. We have like a MTBR Inflexiables channel where we were posting resort trips and weekend rides and it lost steam.

Maybe a blog that we all have access to and can add content. So for instance Brian posts his GPS tracks, I post pics and kuhn post video on the MTBR forum we could all take a minute to post the same content on the Inflexibles blog.

    My 2 cents.

I like it Chis, way to capture this special ride. Quality still looks good but nothing like what we saw on Kmans tv...

This sounds like it could work. I think the issue with the MTBR Inflexables group forum was it not sending out updates when it was edited. So people would post rides and no one would see it until it was too late. If people subscribed to the blog page then we wouldn't have that issue.

Yeah, I have been thinking about how to structure it to include multiple editors/contributors. You and P_Dubs are more advanced web designers than I am so I am sure you guys have a lot of good ideas. I built my site with Weebly because it is so simple and I think that is a good thing if we plan on this idea having any longevity.

I like Pinkbike's format and I made a quick, example site here:

Im game for anything as long as it does not replace out posting on MTBR and meeting new folks. The last thing I want for the group is to become so exclusive that new folks and friends are not able or feel not welcome to show up to any of the rides.

Exactly. The site will just be a repository for photos and vids. I like popping on the forum and seeing new posts to a night ride thread as well as new riders showing interest and posting in the thread. I was thinking that when photos and vids are ready, a new post on the thread will link to that particular ride's page on the new site. Maybe even incorporate a medium sized logo to embed. Wouldn't hurt to design it with a "new riders" welcome feel.

Your idea sounds fine to me. I can't say that I would participate much in developing it, as I like the ease of usage that MTBR and Tapatalk provide. But if you want to do it, go for it browski.

would be pretty easy to integrate tapatalk into our own ride blog, would be pretty similar and perhaps nicer in some ways... guess it wont hurt to try

For the record, awesome group and much fun to ride with. I like the blog idea. But keep in mind, I did find out about the group on here so thats a good point. Tried Palmer this A.M. and it's no bueno as of now. Even with the 2.5 DH tire's I had to keep to the roads.
