B-E-A-Utiful Grn Mtn ride this morn - TR

I am so glad I rode Grn Mtn this morning.
Usually not the biggest fan, but it's there, usually ridable in the winter and early/late season, and it's a ride.
Met MGE this morning (Sat 2/6/10) at 5 (:15) at Rooney lot.
It was very cold and foggy/misty.
Decided BOR wasn't calling our name yet, so headed around the lower ST to Hayden and climbed it. It obviously was still frozen being so early, but a LOT of people have been riding it when warm and VERY muddy (don't ride it during those times please!).
Anyway, we climbed up and out of the mist/clouds, and were above them. It was still dark, but we could see the clouds below, and knew we were in for a treat.
Didn't know how much of a treat though.
Once it lightened up it was unreal.
Some of the most beautiful scenery I have seen yet in my 46 years - no exaggeration.
Green Mtn and the surroundings as you've never seen.
Most of my decent pix were on the Zorro/DR side. Hopefully some of MGE's came out from the GM side.

    Back down in the mist:

    My favorite (?):

Didn't quite line up the pano good enough but still nice:

    Maybe this is my fave?

A professional photog would have been in Heaven!
We both could not stop talking about it. I think I would have stayed up there and watched it until it cleared out, but MGE is on some kind of mission, so we kept going, which was good too.
MGE probably has some great pix as well, but until then - enjoy these.
This is a ride I will not forget for a L-O-N-G time!

I was up there this morning and ran into mge on zorro. I thought what I saw was awesome after my relatively late start at 8:30 (compared to 5:00 you crazies!). Anyway what I saw was no where near as awesome as these pics. Great job!

I looked at MGE's pix on just the tiny screen of his camera & they were KILLER! Can't wait to see'em on the big screen as well. Guess getting up at such an ungodly hour paid off for y'all today!

Andy - damn ... that is amazing. sorry I missed it but my son and I had a blast up at Winter Park. Thanks for the invite though
We left the house at 6:00 and the fog was real thick. We didn't get the views that you two did ...

I just got back from a quick ride up on GM. Made it home from skiing with enough daylight left that I didn't need the Amoebas. Agree with you that there are still sections of Heyden that aren't rideable yet. Did you happen to catch the new signage that City of Lakewood has put up regarding trail use when muddy? Doubt it will help (sadly) ... tonight, while I was hiking a muddy section at the waterbars on Heyden, 2 riders passed me, off the trail, further widening an already widened section. When I politely asked them to keep their bikes on the trail, one guy replied "it's waaayyy too muddy, bro"

One word alone can describe this morning....LEGENDARY! Thanks for making it out with me, Bad Andy! This ride tops anything I've done on the Front Range and redefines what may be thought of Green Mtn, just for the views alone.

    SICK!

How often do you get that kinda fog in CO? Not that often.

Good work getting up early for it. Thanks for reminding me that I need to get out on dirt, too much pavement these days.

looks like fog took the isolation factor way up- doesn't even close look like the Green mountain I saw last Tues. Reminds me of when I lived in the mountains and we got a good inversion layer- sunshine on top, crappy in flatlands... those are awesome days.

Awesome images both of yous!! I've ridden in San Francisco above the fog like this before. It made a normally boring trail one of my most memorable rides. The feeling you get is indescribable. I just remember I didn't want it to end.

THANK YOU!! These shots by you and Andy are really great! I had a chance to see conditions like these once at White Ranch where the singletrack breaks off from Belcher onto the steep uphill to the uppermost bench. It was soooo cool to be looking down on an illumintated dense cloud system/fog --- but no camera back in those days.

Didn't keep me from putting down 2 hours of riding yesterday. Stonehouse trail(singletrack) becomes a treat in snow like this.

    Bump.
Anyone get out early and get some good shots from similar conditions this morning?
Will post some pix (taken with phone unfortunately) from a drive up Lookout after dropping the kids off at a church youth event.
    MUST BUY NEW CAMERA.
MUST KEEP AN EYE ON FORECAST FOR FOGGY CONDITIONS.
Going riding/recon now but I'll post pix later if any are good at all.

I saw it from the south...

I noticed the fog from down south while on Ridgeline this morning. I only had my blackberry and it was a decent distance off, so I didn't try any shots. I'm pretty sure I would have needed a decent camera with a pretty good zoom to do it justice. I still have a very nice picture of it in my head though!

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've bumped this thread now (you're welcome )!

Sadly, I am discovering all too frequently that when you are laid up, you often daydream and/or actually dream (think this one may be due to some hombrew courtesy of someone on the forum, won't mention names, but full trucker) of great rides you've had.
This one rates right up towards the top for me, so BUMP!
