    As the Aspens turn...

Saw my first yellow aspen leaves of the year on Saturday.

I saw them on School Bus trail... just a hand full... one in particular, lonely, bright yellow, laying in the dark soil.

This reminds me of something I wanted to look up the other day. Can anyone recommend a good fall foliage ride I can take my young kids and non-rider wife? If it's anything more "technical" than Bear Creek it'll be a hiking trip though.

There was one tree up here that changed two weeks ago. QUITTERS!!!!

Do the same tree's turn early every year? If so I'm off to sharpen the chain saw.

Just a few branches of a few trees here in Summit. It's been a warm and wet summer and I'm not sure how that will effect the timing and intensity of the leaves.

You should take them to Kenosha pass and ride the first part to the south park overlook. It's a climb through the aspens and if you time it right it'll be a great short ride that's not techy. It's probably less than 3 miles round trip though.

The other side of Kenosha has a great trail also that's an out and back w a great aspen grove. I think there's one rocky section if I remember. You an also ride that out throught the aspens and back.

The only problem is that pass is a zoo when the aspens are changing! Possibly the altitude too if your wife doesn't ride much.

The FS road that goes east off Kenosha is actually a pretty good one. Bonus is that the FS road is generally deserted... even during peak season.

our backyard cottonwood (south Boulder, 5400') already has some yellow leaves on it too, of course it could be related to some mild stress as we had the arborists out a month ago to do a crown reduction and remove a couple big leaders.

I've done Kenosha a few years ago in the fall but can't remember when the prime time really is...anyone? What about steamboat? I was thinking the third or fourth weekend of September...I know Leadville is really pretty around that time.

These were taken Oct. 2 a few years ago so...it won't be long now. This record heat will be a distant memory.
