some NASTY muddy spots today... had to hose off completely after riding (obviously the bike, but us as well!!) shyanne after the split (going right at the wood double) was disgusting... no idea why they have it open.

Hope more melts for next weekend, but I don't see it being mud free.

    That said... killer day today!

I'm hoping to put together a vacation up there the following week, but I've never stayed there, just done day trips. Do you have any recommendations as to where to stay? I'm looking for something above youth hostel, but below The Ritz.

Also, went up to Trestle on opening day, and it was awesome; by July 4th you should have a great time.

For the last 4 years i have stayed at the WP Mtn Lodge right on the other side of HW 40 from the resort and have been very happy with them, They always have 20% off if you book online, This year i am staying at the Vintage because the wife wanted the out door pool and hot tube and the price was sweet, Also i can come and go as i please because of the Gondola at the hotel to the base of WP resort, but i just looked and they are filling up fast no Hotel rooms left just Studio/w Kitchenette and Lofted Studio , The best western is kind of high in my book so that is not and option ,

Here is the link to the Vintage http://www.vintagehotel.com/index.htm

I'm planning on making my first trip to Trestle on Friday while on my way to California. Any advice for someone who's only downhill experience is the Valmont Bike Park? Do I need to bring anything in particular?

It was easy to skip the mud and have a great run

I had a great day but I did see one guy pulling mud out of his pants. I guess it matters where you crash.

Rent a downhill bike and armor. It wouldn't be a bad idea to pay for a lesson your first time or hang with some locals who ride it all the time and get pointers. And if you think you are going too fast let off the brakes.

My twelve year old son and I were thinking of doing either Sol Vista or Trestle this weekend. My question is, which has the better middle ground for riding? We're not serious DHer's but we like our technical stuff and a few small drops. Which is going to be better for the both of us? We rode Keystone twice last year and he loved it. Mostly blues with a few "light" blacks mixed in. Any help would be appreciated.

Both are fun. WP will have longer runs, but SV with their shorter ones make you less tired. HA! Either way, you're going to have a good time.

Any suggestions on a place to for a one night stay? Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Another son is flying back into DIA on Monday afternoon so spending the night up in the mountains sounds like a good time. IE, thanks for the info. The kid's leaning towards WP right now. We'll see when it get's a bit closer.

Sounds like Trestle may have what I'm looking for. Got a group of 4 of us XC racing types doing Firecracker 50 on Monday and looking to do some fun riding Tuesday without climbing. Does Trestle offer blue/"light black" and maybe even some green trails accessible by lift? We'll have had enough climbing after Monday.

It'll be our first time doing lift access riding, so trying to make sure we don't get stuck walking our 4" xc bikes down crazy stuff.

    thanks for any insights

Thinking about heading to Trestle for the first time this weekend. How long would one expect the lift lines to be on July 4th weekend?

I'm not sure how much of Green World will be rideable by then, but it's a fun little flow trail. The blues that start halfway down are easily doable on an XC bike; my wife rode them on her Superlight last year. Just roll the features and you'll be fine.

I've done downhill in other states - not worried about the riding part as long as things aren't too muddy, just possible long lift lines!

We went on opening day, and expected the lines to be brutal; they were not. The place got more crowded as the day wore on, both of those things could have been attributed to the conditions and that not everything was open.

I imagine that on a holiday weekend, that it will be crowded, but less so in the morning. When it does get crowded, the line goes pretty fast, and you'll be happy for the break!

RF you'll be fine. I'll be there on Monday...blow off the 50 and meet us, WP is ripping fun. The only thing I'd worry about, know you, is getting adrenaline drunk and busting up your bikes. Rent a bike and have a good time.

Boulevard finally open today late this afternoon, Trestle is open top to bottom, the new Escamo lift at the bottom of Rainmaker opened today (I had the huge honor of being the first rider on that lift ever), Bear Arms has never been in better shape. Great job WP!

That's great news! Was up yesterday and couldn't figure out why Boulevard wasn't open from the top. Of course they waited until Friday to do it. Good times regardless. Finally hit the wooden booter on Beeall Ucanb. I always case the small jump into that and never had enough speed.

I'll be back up on Monday. Riding a 10 Giant Glory 00 with black Giro Remedy helmet and Leatt.

Decided at the last minute to head up Saturday morning to Trestle. I have room for up to 3 people, bikes and gear. Not asking for anything and it seems stupid not to offer up a ride if someone doesn't have a ride. All my riding buddies bailed and the wife and daughter are gone for the weekend. So... it is time to hit WP. Send me an email if you're needing ride. Coming from 470 and University near Littleton and will probably be on the rode around 7:15 or so. Post a reply or get in touch with me at 402.813.2758

Cool. Glad everyone is getting their DH riding on! I need to as well. Any ideas how traffic would be if I headed up to Sol Vista tomorrow and drove back to Denver tomorrow? I don't want to end up driving home on the 5th like last year - That sucked and it was on a Monday so don't know why it happened like that.

don't worry about lift lines this weekend, Gemini and eskimo chairs are open for bike riders. hot laps of double jeapordy and RM!! We just started building upper RM and a new DH style trail from the top should be coming on line soon ( a month). Lots of maintenance and tweaks going on as well.

    Great day

I had a great day too. Not crowded, perfect jumps and not even any traffic going home on 70 at 4:00. Going west on 70 was a different story.

I'm with you 187. I cased hard over and over on Rainmaker, even as I went a little faster each time...I am getting older.

Even so, still makes me feel like a little kid doing jumps on my banana seat bike.

Guess you should have gone to Bergen and done XC instead (me too - LOL).

I have used it, and it worked for me, but don't plan to stand within 5-10 yards of anyone, and not get some weird looks or comments about the horrendous odor coming ouch'yer mouth.

Yeah, death breath... heard about that too. I don't care if it gets me riding by next wknd. I just figure I'll need to have a crap-ton of Lysterine around when I use it
