Thank you all that showed today for the opportunity to carry your beer to the top. I had a great hike today. Saw a few deer and even a pine martin. Cool stuff and I needed the fresh air.

I didn't have a camera today but this is what a martin looks like:

    Not this martin:

Wish I'd charged the camera the night before, I wound up bringing it and it gave up after one photo.

    Awesome shots! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the motivation PBR! It is always nice to ride bikes with friends, the first day of the year. The whiskey was tasty and the traction was good!

Plus, a girl had to represent!

I had so much fun, I did a solo ride at lunch today...

some people never learn (goldenboy - 1st of MGE's pix).
Don't you remember the last time you tried a stunt like that???
Think Cent Cone switchback. That wasn't on a fatbike though, so maybe the fatbike saved your bacon this time.

Scared is what's wrong with this forum. The Krampus is what's right.

Ignore Scared, I was the fella on the Krampus. They're not available for purchase yet, I was on a prototype that Salvagetti let me demo.

On snow it's about halfway between a normal bike and a fatbike. If I wavered away from the packed down trails and got into powder things still got real slippery real fast. It was way fun and grippy on the packed stuff though, and I could motor up things that were giving others a hard time from lack of grip.

On dirt I think it's replaced the Titanium Hardtail 29er as my n+1 bike. The tires had plenty of cush at 9 psi to smooth out rocks and bumps, it still felt very efficient climbing, if heavy, and in the prototype 1x9 setup (39x36 is the granny!) I could stand up on steep sections and hammer big, sloppy, square pedal strokes without the rear tire breaking loose. It handles nice and grips for days.

The steering geometry felt right, but the bars were very low for me with the short headtube. I always felt too over the front of the bike the way it's set up, and friends who own one that pedaled around the parking lot said it's very similar to Karate Monkey geometry. I'd have to put an embarrassing amount of spacers under the bars or have Surly tweak the geometry from the factory to get the bars level with the seat. Your mileage may vary.

They're reworking the prototype a bit before it's released to the public, I understand the front cog is going to be changed to 32T, the rear was too flexy for them (it felt fine, but I didn't take it on any sweet jumps), and I hear they're beefing up the sidewalls on the tires, which (I hear) tend to shred and explode easily. It uses normal 29er tubes.

If it fit me better, $2 grand would be hard to ignore, it'd be the perfect winter commuter when it's too sloppy for road tires and a big-smile-inducing cross country machine. 29er+ is absolutely the right thing to call it, it feels like a normal 29er, but more. It smooths out the trail more, grips more, and carries more momentum.
