    1/16/13 Springs Night ride.

So with this stupid cold snap we are in right now I cant wait till the weather warms back up, which according to the weather guessers that it will be on Wednesday. There has been talk of UTE valley so that Brian can join us, is that where people still want to go? If so should we plan on a beer and meeting at the safeway parking lot again? Also does anyone plan on falling of the 20ft cliff again? If so please dont, it looked rather painful.

Have fun guys. I'll be going to a nice restaurant while you guys are riding, but I'd definitely rather be in Ute with all of you. I guess I'll have to drown my sorrows in $$ wine...

Ute was fun today. There was a lite layer of snow so that shouldn't turn into slop Wednesday. I like avoiding 20ft cliffs. When you guys start at Safeway where do you enter the park? I just need to figure out where to meet you.

Going skiing this Wednesday. Rode jacks today in the cold. I stayed warm and the trail was super fun. Good to see that the weather might cooperate this week for you guys.

I showed them a super duper secret entrance last time , it's a fun piece that you drop into by the hotel closer to I25. If you guys do park at Wyatt's, the old HP building is gone now, so you can skip that crappy hill at the beginning and just ride the road behind where HP used to be to get to the trail

Can't make tomm night, gonna ride during the day

So I can meet you guys by where the A frame building used to be. Not sure why they tore that one down... What time do you think? 6:10 or so sound about right?

Actually, looking at Google Earth I think I see the the trail you take. It would probably be easier to meet at the bench by the b*itch climb by the middle school.

Were you guys thinking Hog Back or mellower ride?

That's the perfect place to park/meet now that HP is gone, no more security and plenty of folks are parking there during the day. The Wyatt's/Safeway lot can be busy in the evenings and the Vindicator lot is not as private.

How long are you going to be gone? I have a buddy that has one he is selling and said you could borrow it since he hasn't had anyone bite yet.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The roads are mostly clear, but my yard is still covered with snow. I'll check it out on my lunch and see how it looks. What were you thinking for a backup?

I would bet conditions are gonna be awesome, its been so cold the ground will still be frozen and not much is gonna melt with today's warmer weather. By the time you start riding conditions should be perfect, I might see you tonight after all.

I regularly drink 2 Buck Chuck (Charles Shaw) and the only time it ever gives me a headache is when I have a little too much Chuck. You should try it once Trader Joes opens up in Denver and you can buy it "locally". It's quite good for the price, although it costs 3 bucks outside of California. Tonight will be Silver Oak though since my boss is buying.

    Have fun tonight guys!!!

It will be interesting to see what is happening on the trail. With the lack of shade in Ute the sun is going to be heating up the snow, so we could get a frozen glaze, or just some slush....It will make the hogback interesting for sure.

If you guys want to park at my house that's fine. Wyatt would probably be better if you're grabbing food afterwards.

Lunch ride complete. It felt good to be in shorts again, minus the scrub oak that demanded a blood sacrafice...

The trail is actually dry about 60% or so. I didn't see any mud, although there is still a chance since it is only noon. The hog back had basically no snow, and actually had some bike tracks on it so that's good.

That's my report. Arin, if you still want to switch the ride that's fine with me. If I can't make it no big deal. If you guys are still on for Ute you need to post up your meeting spot or at least where you're entering the park so I know where to meet you.

I had a blast tonight. For some reason every time I ride Ute at night I crash. Sadly tonight is one of those delayed pain crashes where not things are starting to hurt. Oh well that is the fun of it right.

Great ride last night guys! Best weather in weeks to be sure. Did anyone clock the mileage? Anyone take pictures? I forgot the camera this week.

Sorry to hear about the injuries, guys. All I saw was a bike shooting off into the woods and then hearing laughter, so I assumed things were all right.

The trails are good to go for tomorrow. There is a small bit of snow up top on the north facing stuff but other then that they are good to go.

Snow and a little ice on the north side of the ridge. The snow is packed down across the width of the trail. Ice is minimal really. I rode the Jacks loop yesterday and it was fun. If you haven't tried the newish Spring Creek trail, I recommend it: at the bottom of Jack's turn right back up Gold Camp. Right before the tunnel take a left on the signed trail. This twisty gem brings you down to Columbine trail from which you can return to the Chutes lower parking lot via 90 seconds of road.
