Soul Cycles Clydesdale Build: My First Bike Build

    Alright guys, I'm almost there.

After many many years of bike riding as a kid and several stints as an adult I am back on 2 wheels again after a 6 year hiatus. And I decided it's time to do it the way I want to this time.

With the help of a Capital One credit card, Ebay, a r/c trade, and a little cash I have my first build almost complete & kept it under $1500.

    Parts List:

2010 Soul Cycles Dillinger Frame & Fork (Root Beer)

Salsa Semi Wheels/DT Swiss Spokes with Hope Pro2 Hubs

    Continental 2.4 Mountain King(fr) with a 2.2 Race King(rear)

    Avid Juicy 7's w/ 160mm rotors

    Truvativ Holzfeller Crankset

    Salsa 32t Chainring w/ Surly 20t cog

    Cane Creek s3 headset

    Thomson 110mm & 70mm Stems

    Thomson Elite setback Seatpost

Easton MonkeyLite Carbon Bars w/ ODI Ruffian lock-ons

    WTB saddle

    Azonic Magnesium Platforms
    ________________________________

This will be my first time riding a singlespeed.
This will be my first time riding 29" wheels.
This will be my first time going rigid.
This will be my first time running disc brakes of any kind.

It is just a pile of parts at the moment. I have the last miscellaneous parts coming this Friday the 13th from JensonUSA. I will get pics up just as soon as I can.

Heck...I applaud you for keeping it under $1500...I sure as hell wish I could say that about my still unfinished budget destroying build. Bad thing is, I have a second frame just collecting dust waiting for a single speed build so there goes another chunk of change after my first build is done.

Yeah, I had to fight the urge to splurge on a Hope headset. I was thinking of matching the headset to the hubs but it doesnt really matter. I had found them for $107 but it basically would have added $80 to my budget.

As far as that 2nd frame goes, I feel ya there. I bought a roller 29er to get pull some parts from. And after swapping some things here & there I'm still left with a decent roller that Im hoping NOT to build but would rather sell to recoup about $200 maybe.

Yeah...I thought about the Hope headsets too but opted for a Cane Creek 110 in red that matches my Hope hubs very nicely. I got a great deal on the 110 from Chain Reaction...even with shipping from the UK, the total price was about half what I would have paid here in the US.

Nice build! I'm curious, are you going tubeless on the Semi's?

Thank you sir. Right now I am running tubes.

The rims have warning labels that recommends against running them tubeless. However, I believe the friend I purchased them from had tried them tubeless.

So far, so good w/ the Conti Mt. King 2.4. However I am slowly dropping the pressure hoping to find a sweet spot for the terrain I ride. If I run into any problems I'll just try out Brand B next. I think there are alot of really good tires out there and part of the fun is trying them out.

Now if I can just get these damn rear brakes figured out ......

Grats, I have Soul Cycles Icon and really enjoy it. I also like the use of the term "roller", I am using that is from the rc stuff you talked about. I just got a Slash, cannot let that hobby get out of control.

I have had good luck with CST Cabelleros.
