Don't know anyone who uses a seat pad, especially if you're talking about the kind that slip on over the seat.
Everyone SHOULD be using bike shorts or bibs. Some folks like baggies (cargo short looking shorts with padding inside) and others swear by bibs. After I started I switched to bibs and won't look back. Keeps everything in place, allows me to move around the seat effortlessly for climbing and descending. With my baggies on the trail I tend to get caught on the seat.
I wear bibs under shorts, sometimes just the bibs. I'll never go back to a regular bike short and lined mountain bike shorts are just stupid expensive. I like my shorts tight-ish so that they don't get hung up on the saddle.
Ok, bibs it is.... I ordered bibs yesterday, I'm sure me in bibs will be a show but if it keep me riding and my rear going I'm all for it. I'll probably wear them under my shorts at least until I get some weight off.
I have bibs and baggies from Aerotech. I honestly like the bibs better than the baggies, but I tend to be "out and about" more after mtn biking so I only wear my bibs when I ride my road bike. Vain I know, but most people don't want to see 360lbs in lycra.
There there is any chance I'll wander around in public during or after a ride, I stick a pair of shorts in my Camelback.
