Need some help in a bike

I've been reading the forums for the past month or so and have decided to start looking into getting a bike.

I live in Victor NY which is basically in Rochester. There are lots of trails here in my backyard.

A little about me. I'm 6'0 and tip the scales at about 350 or so.

I'm really looking for some advice on what I should look into when it comes to a bike. For me I'm looking for something I can cruise the trails here in my area. They are mainly paved or dirt flat trails.

As far money goes. Maybe somewhere in the $500 to $800 range.

Try to find a used Haro Escape 8.3, Mines an 04 but never broke anything on it and was doing lots of riding on it when I was at 300, and its geared just right for crusing the back yard...

I'm 6'1" and 300 pounds, and I just picked up a '08 GT Peace 9r Multi (3x9... not the S/S) from Performance for $503 (after applying coupon code 540 for an additional 10% off the clearance price). Rigid fork, Deore drivetrain & hubs. Here are a couple of relevant links:

Like many others, I looked very hard at the Cliff29 and Phantom; if I had been more confident in my mechanical skills, I would have popped for one of those bikes ($569/$595, respectively).
