Need Help: Big feet and ankle protection...

Short and sweet here... size 48, wide feet, I'm sick of having my ankles destroyed by smashing them against my cranks/bolts. Any big-footed dudes have any experience with a shoe like the Lake MX 155 or Specialized Trail (or anything else 3/4+ top, I'm sure I'm missing some). Thanks!

For me (size 14) its platform pedals and hiking boots.

Hard for me to find shoes that fit, but when I find ones narrow enough to fit into XL toe clips, I snap up a pair or two.

or you could get the little ankle protectors that are part of soccer shin pads. Some models are separate from the shin pads themselves and have two little cups that protect your ankle bones where they stick out on the side. They're short, so they could be covered by your cycling socks too!
