    Kahuna VS. Mahuna

im 350lbs 6ft, Im looking into the Kona Kahuna and Mahuna. Cant really tell the differences other then the price. and some of the specs. Had a rigid frame Diamondback (1990)a prevous bike. Local bike shop carries Kona but nothing in stock, but will order what model i want. I know nothing about the newest bike tech, Some help me make a decision.

The biggest thing is the fork. At your weight you are going to need an air fork. The mahuna does not have an air fork, I can't remember if the kahuna has one.
I'll be at the shop tommrrow and we have both in stock I'll check it out and see what I can find out. I'll check back thur and let you know.

thank you, I did spend some time at the local Kona shop, one guy said get the Kahuna, with all the bells, the other said Mahuna and have some $ for upgrades. We talked about tubeless wheels, and tires, because of my weight and how i plan to ride. So for the present time im leaning towards Mahuna then some upgrades as i ride. But the problem, they dont seem to be getting any Mahunas in anytime soon, but they can get the pricer Kahuna

Tires and tubes arnt as important as a good shock that can handle your weight. If the fork doesn't work, the rest of the bike won't work well either.

I'll look them over side by side tommrrow. I'll also call kona and see what the aviability is. Maybe the mahuna isn't an option right now. I'll
    Let ya know

Yea, checked both bikes and both forks are not air. So if you go mahuna then spend the extra money on a good fork with air settings. That's just my opinion, but at 350 lbs I'm really thinking you need a great fork up front.

    Good luck. Bill

Good deal Mahuna it is. Time to plan some upgrades. So should i just ride as is, till it fails? What forks with air do you recommend?

If your on a budget, try asking the shop what shocks they can get you with a discount since you are buying a bike. If not, check review sections here, figure your budget, and chceck out the online retailers.

At your weight, any good shock within your price range that can be aired up to handle it will ride better for you. Then put the old shock on craigslist, someone might give you some money for it.

and to think my current bike has a rigid suspension

can rule out the 26" ones

"Forks currently available through this program include the following SR Suntour models
Raidon LO R Air Disc Blk 26 $150.00
Raidon LO R Air Disc Blk 29 $175.00
    Epicon TAD 15Qlc 150-110 Disc Blk/White 26 $250.00
    Epicon LO R 15Qlc White 29 $275.00
    Axon RL 15Qlc Blk/White 26 $300.00"

    Raidon's only 9mm axle?

man all this new stuff to research

Awesome. Is this still keeping you in your budget? If so sounds like a good plan.
