Good wheel combo for me? 300lbs with gear on a 29er.

So local bike shop came up with this combo for my 29er. Input?

    DT Swiss XM490 rims 32h
    DT Swiss 350 hubs
    DT Swiss Alpine 2.5 spokes

    $680.00 with my club discount.

I'd like to be a one and done set of wheels.

+1 on the hubs, I run those and they are great. I'm your same weight.

Not sure on the rims but when lacemine29.com quoted me for 29" wheels( I run 26), they recommended 36 hole salsa gordo rims.

You can get 36h MTx33's laced to Hopes from LaceMine29 for about the same price shipped as you were quoted from your shop. You're getting bombproof rims, great hubs, and built by the best in the biz. There's other hub options as well...that's what I got from Mike and my cost was $660 shipped. Three years of torture and my wheels are still doing great.

Well looked at the MTX33 wheels and I think that they are a bit more heavy. Talking to a couple shops seems like 36h wheels are on the way out a bit. Getting harder to find comparable components. Looks like the Salsa Gordo rims are no longer in production.

    I am running Velocity Blunt Rims - 36 Hole - Laced X 3 - White Industry Hubs.

Everything seems good. Not sold on X 3 Lacing nor do I like slow engagement of Hubs.

    And...I am 6'7 290 LBS

I've looked at the blunts but shy away because of no reinforced nipple holes. I think I'm leaning towards the dt hubs though.

I am actually in the market for a spare rear wheel. Honestly I think I may go with Shimano XT hubs. Looking for something cheap and bomb proof.

See if they'll build you Stan's Flow EX rims on the same hubs and spokes. Don't worry about reinforcement on the spoke holes.
