    Fork

    I have '08 Rockhopper w/ Dart 3 SL Fork. I weigh 300#.

Fork isn't terrible, but would like it stiffer.

    1. Can it's spring rate be raised?
    2. If not, what is AN ECONOMICAL FORK FOR THE WEIGHT?

I ride mostly road, gravel, and green ways. Fairly gentle on it.

    Suggestions...

one of these recon forks would work (maybe) if you can get a spring (the coil ones) that would work for you.
BlueSkyCycling.com - 2011 Rock Shox Recon Silver R Coil Fork OE
The 29er is a steal at this price. It's a 29er though. If you retrofit an Argyle motion control in them, you'd be set. Best thing to do is get the right Rock Shox rep on the phone and explain your situation. The Recon Silver SoloAir 26er fork would work good too. Performance Bikes used to have them online (performancebike.com), but no more. But some of their stores might still have some. And other places too.(like ebay) You might find one for under $250.The 2013 model will cost more. I also been hearing about the Manitou Match Comp fork. You need to get a separate firmer spring kit for that one.(it's a coil fork).
I think the adjustable Argyle motion control is the right one, but not sure.(there are coil and air Argyles I think.) The Rock Shox reps will tell you which ones fit which forks.
