    Dual purpose bike

6'4" 280ish lbs. Just getting into the sport. I have a Talus Sport 29er that I like and have started upgrading parts.

A build a dual purpose bike with a set street tires and a set of mtb tires.

Street so I can use it for commuting, exercise and riding to have fun like I when I was younger.

    MTB for a spare/26" alternative.

    Bits and pieces thus far:
    Kona Kula frame
Sun Ringle Rhyno Lite Disc Wheelset
Dart1 or Psylo fork (I need to rebuild the Psylo I am told)
    BB7 brakes

    Advice needed:
I would like to keep it a 1x9/10 or 2x9/10 for simplicity. Most of my riding is in the middle ring on the Talus. I spin on tough climbs so I do use the granny a bit. That said as a dual purpose, the large chain ring would be helpful on the streets.

Any advice, experience on a build like this would be appreciated.

I would want at least 2x10, preferably 3x10 for a dual purpose bike. Gearing for street and trail could not be more different. I would want a huge large ring for road and a small granny so you can spin up climbs.

Other than that just build two wheelsets, one for street and one for trail.

Great idea with the wheel set, at least a back up rear wheel.

Perhaps a 3x10 + bash guard. Pull the large ring for MTB pull the small for street...
