    Bike for a Big bloke

    Hi All,

Im at the better part of 170kgs at 6.3, and am looking to see if its worth me getting a bike at this weight to help me lose weight (going to get to 120kgs), I am after some sound advice to help me decide, if 1 its right to get 1 at this weight and I can find one to stand up to me, also 2nd What bike.

So far Im looking at these bikes

    Trek 4500 Disc - 26"
    Trek Mamba - 29"
    Trek Cobia - 29"
    Specialized Rockhopper 2 - 29"

From what I can tell these seem pretty strong, although I have read Cobia may have strengh issues, anyway what I am trying to decide is it worth me getting one of these at my weight, or is there nothing that can withstand my weight?

Im happy to change the back rim and seat, I just want something that can handle me with no issues, any advice appreciated.

My only advice is to get a bike with no weight limit on the frame (Giant and Specialized I think) and to get the shop to set it up for a heavy guy and have them explain what they think that means..

for those non metric of us that 170kg is about 370lbs...

i'd look into a steel frame of some sort... perhaps a surly or an on-one inbred... and a rigid fork (no suspension fork is rated for that kind of weight)... also 36 spoke hand built wheels would go a long way for strength...

I a surly karate monkey and a redline d440 (both steel frames and rigid)
