Anyone dislike the High Roller 2 up front?

I dunno if it's the soft side knobs of the 3C model I'm using that are too soft and folding over, but I could not get along with this tire up front.

Any heavier guys tried it and care to comment? I'm on the 29x2.3 model, running tubeless.

I'm a little annoyed how this tire gets pretty much nothing but praise and I don't like it, even after playing with tire pressures.

Great rear tire but I could never make it work up front either.

What size/compound did you try? 29x2.3 3C (Maxx Terra) up front didn't do it for me...

I put it on the rear and love it for more gravity oriented stuff. A little draggy on the uphill but great otherwise.

It's great for the rear, but did not like it on the front either. I also didn't like my maxxis minion on the front as well which are similar. I found them both to want to slide out on turns in loose conditions.

I think it has to do with the gap between the inner knobs and the outer knobs. There is like a 1/4 inch gap between them and when leaning and turning the wheel just right I think that gap causes the tire to slide.

I look for a tire that has knobs in that gap area when selecting a front tire.
Get out of the gutter and onto the mountain top.

Hmm, i have been noticing lately a lot of front wheel washouts on my bike. Chalked it up to the super dry conditions we have been having here in Courtenay BC. May i ask what tire you guys have been using instead of the high roller / up front.

I have a IRC Trail Bear front tyre and I love it. LINK It grips really well on just about any surface and goes where you expect. Importantly, it behaves nicely under braking, even in corners. I don't think it's made any more but I want another tyre that behaves similarly.

I have a High Roller on the back and it goes sideways instantly if you brake it in a turn. You get used you it and it can be useful but I agree, not what I'd want on the front.

One tyre I've seen which has what looks like a very similar tread pattern to the Trail Bear is the Kenda Kinetics Front Specific: LINK It's a really cheap tyre though so I doubt it's as good. I don't know. I actually have two of these tyres in the shed but only in the smaller 2.1'' size so I haven't tried one on my bike. You get it in 2.35 though and I think I might get one to see what it's like, at the price it's worth a punt. There also seems to be a tyre of the same name with a different tread pattern, I'll need to watch I don't buy one of those.

Looks like you might get that Kenda in 2.6 as well.
