13 Carve Comp vs 14 Crave or Rockhopper Comp for Clyde?

Been checking around for a mountain bike to fill the gap in the bikes I currently own. Something that can do some level trail riding in sloppy weather until I get my weight down from 350 to the 275# range.

I found some good deals and narrowed it to these bikes.
2014 Crave or 2013 leftover Carve Comp (same price)
    or the 2014 Rockhopper Comp.

The only thing I question is the Crave & Carve have 28h from wheels.
The bike shops seem to feel the race wheels are plenty strong as long as I keep them true.

I do have a Park wheel truing machine so able to do that.

Unless I am missing something, I think the Carve is the best deal.

I'd go with the 2013 Carve because it has an air shock which will be much better at your weight. It also seems to have slightly better components and hydro brakes. I'd get that out of the three without a doubt.

Thanks that is the one I am leaning towards.

I weight 220lbs / 6ft7 and have a 2013 carve comp. Gives me no problems at all and is a great handling bike. Once adjusted the brakes stop me on a dime. Just keep any eye on brake pad wear in the wet as they can go down quite quickly, just a general observation for disc brakes.

I picked up the leftover Specialized Carve Comp, looks like its going to be a great ride. Will give you a report later this week when temps come out of the teens.

Awesome. Sounds like a good choice. Specialized bikes are pretty sweet. They do a ton of r&d so they generally get their stuff right.
