Might be picking up a 06 XCL

How reliable/strong are these frames?
I've seen a thread where the chain stays crack, is this a common problem? Anyone know the price of a new rear triangle if they do crack?
Is $500 a fair price on a looks to be a good condition frame? (large/rp23 shock)
I'm 220~ geared, I'm used to beating my GT hardtail and hope these frames can handle that (maybe 2-3 drops IF that, nothing crazy).

Thanks!

I think 06 was still all USA made with polished rear triangle, so should be fine. And also have 4.5" travel instead of 5".
Bad rear triangles were anodized or painted 07 batch.
$500 seems high though.

what do you think is a fair price for this frame? Since it is mine Ricky916 is talking about? It looks absolutely brand new. Here is the listing on Pink Bike. Be honest and let me know what you think is fair.

must have been used a lot by the first owner to have to be repainted and the rear triangle can easily be made to look like new. the chumba name is bad and it was manufactured over 6 years ago so no more than $300 shipped

The original owner worked for Chumba and built this bike himself. It did not have paint until he decided to sell it. Read my ad link. You can actually follow a time line of this frame on Socaltrailriders website.

I picked it up from him about 4 months ago and it has not been built up.

It does not mention the year of the frame? I will watch this auction and see what he gets for it. But mine looks far better and mine comes with a bit of extras, like a spare hanger(try getting one of those from Chumba), headset, E-type derailleur.

You also have to consider he had the shock pushed, so it is set up for this individual not the new owner. So either he will pop for a new shock or get it redone, either way it is more money out of his pocket.

it was a 2007 model but with a old dhx coil shock. not sure how to compare it. the one you have sure does "look" new though. it depends on how much a person likes the frame. like i race an hx2 and i think that is the best 29er ht ever built(2011 version) so i am always looking for one. i wouldnt mind havin 2 of those....just strip all the paint off though. chumbas made solid bikes up until 2012....

That is why I was selling the frame to get a 29er. I was going to have a custom Russ Denny built for me. But I might just keep the Chumba and eventually build it up and when I'm done with it I will sell it for parts.

I would not pay a penny more than $500 new or used.
