Thule T2 (old one)- can I update for more wheelbase?

So my new 29'er barely fits on my T2. I had to slide the rack over nearly a foot to get the bike centered behind my Jeep. The rear tire hangs off the end of the rail. I can barely get a strap through the wheel the cinched down with 1 tooth holding on the strap.

I was wondering if I could update to the new tire cups, or maybe they sell a longer bar? If the front tire cups could move 3" up, it would be perfect. I unbolted them, the tire holders have molded "nubs" in the bottom, so I can't relocate them.

Yeah, your front wheel cups are facing the wrong way.

I flipped the tire cups around. Now fits much better. A new issue is that the tire clamp won't clear the 29" tire. I had to remove the stop screw and end cap so I can get the clamp lifted high enough to get up and over the front tire. Hopefully it'll work like that. Since the button has to be pushed for the clamp to move up, I don't think it'll get lost on the road.

You have the shorter pre-29'er arms. You can buy the longer arms from etrailer.com

You're not alone. I'm a T2 fanatic. They're great racks. I had a buddy call me with a HUGE dilemma saying his bikes wouldn't fit. I couldn't imagine what he was talking about so I went and looked and saw the same thing you had done.

After a few of us who ride together had been using the T2 with success, a friend of ours purchased one but after a few weeks of using it with his wife's and kids bikes, he was ready to sell it.

Said it was such a pain to get the bikes loaded and secured down. We all argued that it was easy, super easy.

Turns out, he was trying to secure the hooks down over the top tubes of the bikes instead of the tires.

Decided to keep the rack after seeing the light.

    Haha.

Well the longer arm works, it "just" clears the 29" front tire and now the bike fits perfect.
